City bus union opposes plan for private sector operation of bus services

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) labour union has voiced its strong objection to the Transport Ministry’s initiative to contract private companies to operate the city’s bus services and the shelving of its plan to procure a fleet of 3,000 new buses.

Union president Veerapong Wongwaen said Friday that the union will submit a letter of protest to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob on Monday.

He argued that the objective of the BMTA, the city’s bus operator, is to provide services to low income-earners at affordable fares, in line with the government’s policy to help the poor, and this would not be possible if the bus service is operated by a private company, whose main objective is to make a profit.

And the never ending bus saga continues...now the BMA have shelved the purchase of 3000 buses.

This organisation, along with most government enterprises, is a complete and utter failure....managed and run by dolts!

Nah, it's akin to a session with your local dominatrix but without the happy ending.
