Is True offering free 10 mbit fiber upgrades?

I was on a lower fiber plan I think. Lady calls me today offering this and says a technician will call me.

What is the chance she signed me up for some new contract with strings attached?

I ask for 2 reasons:

  1. In the US they once switched my contract, renewing it, while claiming I was bonused 3 months for free
  2. In Thailand the counter girl adamantly said my new place could only take DSL. After 2-3 months of non-working internet she then said she'd sign me up for cable since DSL wasn't working. The DSL switch was then revealed to be another contract switch

So they are often bonused depending on who they sign up for new plans.

I can't speak for your situation but I was on true 20 down 10 up service they called me and let me know for the same price they could switch me to 50 down 20 up when I got my first bill which actually fifty bucks cheaper than the slower service. And on top of that the speech of never wavered I've always gotten what they have promised. Very happy with true and their service

You should ask them exactly what you get and what exactly the price will be per month. True just last month upgraded my internet from 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps for 100 Baht less per month. They also told me I can upgrade to fibre and 200 Mbps at no charge. I pressed them on the price and they assured me there will be no charge whatsoever. Where they do "get you," is the length of the contract. To upgrade to the new plan requires a 24 month contract.

I had the call from TRUE recently as well. The girl was mentioning switching to fibre and I reminded her that I was told TRUE wasn't doing fibre on the Dark Side (I said soi Khao Noi to her) but she seemed to think it wasn't a problem.

Then she said something about someone calling back and that's the last I heard. I have had a couple calls from someone that doesn't speak a word of English, but I get one of those every 2-3 weeks it seems.

One day I'll be in the area of the TRUE shop and will stop in to inquire, though I expect that the answer will be the same. They probably don't have enough "high end" business on this side of Sukhumvit to make it worthwhile installing fibre over here.

(By "high end" I mean subscriptions for their highest speed DSL service - the kind of subscriptions that would be more likely to switch to fibre if it was available. For example, in my "village" there are something like 200 houses but I doubt there are more than 2 with "high end" internet connections - and I'm one of them. The rest that do have internet are probably on much slower connections as the people are mostly middle-aged/older families or younger families with small children and not able to splash out for high speed internet. Would also have to consider that many who do have high end internet may be with other providers instead of TRUE.)

I'm currently on some package the includes TV and a mobile (data) plan. It was cheaper than when I had 3 separate plans but apparently I can't increase my internet speed - unless I change the whole plan. Apparently, if I want higher internet speeds, I have to also take a more expensive TV package and a more expensive Mobile plan as well, instead of just giving me a higher internet connection and leaving the other 2 things as they are.

But then again, I am running 4-6 copies of a graphic intensive online game with few problems as it is so there isn't much need (for me) to upgrade anyways. (Looking at my account online and it shows I'm on the 100mb/30mb connection currently.)

it is all market workings. I have TOT fibre for some years now, started with 50/10 Mb down/up. I saw a promotion, for 100/50 d/u for same price, I requested an upgrade, got it in 2-3 days and paid same price.  Now just 2 months back, I got automatically an upgrade to 200/200 Mb for same price; did not even have to ask for it. with a check on Ookla, it was confirmed, be it that the high 200 Mb was for Thai servers, internationally it dropped about 50% ,

This thread inspired me to check what's happening in the same vein with 3BB, who supplies my internet here in Samui. I was paying 1200/mo for 200/100. When I checked their website, I found that that is the current price for 500/500, so I called them. They had automatically upgraded us, which I confirmed with a speed test. Impressive, to say the least.

Yes we got a free fibre upgrade and new better router which my son games on extensively with no complaints and we are in a dark side village of 200 plus with fibre competition from 3bb and others. Only complaint is that True are not exclusive on EPL!
