"Sia Top" - the alleged serial fraudster who slipped through the hands of immigration while escaping from Thailand to Hong Kong - has now been arrested on his return.

And he is defiant, claiming he is not guilty of all charges made against him.

The colorful character has been at the top of the Thai news for weeks. His real name is Thananat Siripiyaporn but he has the nicknames "Sia Top", "Top" and "Sia Meun Laan".

Sia is a term given to rich men, often of Chinese ancestry. Meun Laan means billion.

He is wanted for a 3.5 million baht fraud after he left a Buriram "pretty" with debts following a wedding.

Yesterday he was arrested at Don Muang airport and taken to the local police station where he was held on a warrant for check fraud.

He told Daily News that this case was an old one dating back to 2016 and everyone had already been paid back.

He said that he knew he would be arrested on his return to Thailand and was unsure whether he would be granted bail.

He proclaimed his innocence of all charges against him.

Regarding the marriage to the pretty he said that he didn't trick her, she tricked him.

He promised legal action to clear his name.

Of course only Thai fraudsters are colourful. Fraudsters from other countries are drab, dreary and boring.

And in the newspaper we cannot mention, immigration claimed they caught him via their new biometrics system.

Yea, nothing at all to do with the fact he had been issued an arrest warrant and he’d told them he’d be returning in a week to clear all this up. Yea, it was the new biometrics system that caught him ????
