June 7, 200421 yr Author Yes and before that Norway was part of Denmark.Union or not, Oslo has never been a Swedish city. True (and before that it was in yet another union with Sweden). However, back to topic: Anyone else out there actually subscribing to Trink's web-service? Has his style changed at all? Seeing how "cramped" he claimed to be under the censorship at Bkk Post, surely he has a few new gimmicks? /// DFW Oslo is a Swedish town. We just let the norwegians borrow it along with the oil. We'll take it all back when the place get sorted out. BT's style has not changed much, just a bit more rambling that the BKK post editors would have removed. He didn't use to write much about his own porn surfing in BKK post but he recently spent a good part of the column describing what kind of different porn websites he has come across. I would say the content is not worth $12 but you can do it for charity. Don't let the old man starve... Well, I just signed up and read this week's column. Charity indeed... At least Burma Shave was out... /// DFW
June 7, 200421 yr > I would say the content is not worth $12 but you can do it for charity. > Don't let the old man starve... I think I can think of roughly 12,938 better charities in Thailand. Bernie would be down near the bottom, but just in front of the Fund for Disabled Pattaya Bikers Who Forgot to Wear Their Nazi Helmet. Cheers, Chanchao
June 7, 200421 yr Trink had a contribution to expat life in Thailand.I know from talking to many expats, who whilst they would rubbish his page yet they were all reading it from top to bottom. Right...but the expats already knew what he was espousng anyway so it was, like, old material all the time. Kinda quaint but not really relevent...
June 7, 200421 yr I don't miss him a bit. Half of what he said was misinformed, the other half just stupid. I must admit, though, that I did read his column every week for almost fifteen years...ending up shaking my head almost every time. My sentiments exactly. His Burma Shave dittys were amusing the first few times but his style of reporting always seemed condescending. Especially given the fact he's lived in LOS forever and never learned Thai well enough to do interviews w/out dragging his wife along to translate... i always thought trink was a disillusioned racist colonialist saddened by even the smallest dollop of equality the thai people have managed to achieve in their own country... he should have been dropped decades ago for someone who understood that his slant on things was from the a couple centuries ago...
June 7, 200421 yr Btw, what part of Sweden you from? Oslo Btw, what part of Sweden you from? Oslo Nice place, I lived there myself between the ages of 3-6. when did they move oslo to sweden? i knew geography courses were lacking in the states but now i'm really going to have to write my congressman...

Nah, that's just a loan. Wait, we'll take back all that oil (with interest)... You can keep the hakkepik but the rest is ours.
June 7, 200421 yr On a semi-related note, I have wondered a couple of times if "Hiram P Klonky" is BT. Can someone confirm or deny?
June 7, 200421 yr Author According to LM Boyd, Bernard Trink comes from Olso, Sweden Now that's funny!
June 9, 200421 yr I enjoyed his column, but took it with a pinch of salt, but the post aint the same on a Friday without his contribution, which to be honest was the only thing in the Post that would raise a smile.(Inless you read anything about the government and its new policies for this and that) iIrecently read a book called Bangkok People in which the author deemed fit to include him. I would not sign up for his website, but admit i miss the old codger
June 10, 200421 yr I signed up for it but am disappointed with the content. $12.00 is too much for what it is.
June 10, 200421 yr Where can one find some of the old 70's stuff? The Bangkok Post has a library and archives (inconveniently situated in Klong Toey). I'm sure they would have the original copies of the Bangkok World available, but I doubt these old columns will ever appear on the Internet.
June 11, 200421 yr Bernard Trink Remember how he wrote in his column that HIV did not cause AIDS. I wonder how many deaths he may have been "indirectly" responsible for. I believe in Karma, so I am not going to write what I think should happen to the *******.
June 12, 200421 yr An interesting fact to note is that there are a very select few people in the world who are HIV positive but have never developed AIDS. Some of these people have been HIV positive for many years; Irvin 'Magic' Johnson being one of them. He has been HIV positive for about thirteen years but has not developed AIDS.

Some of these people have been HIV positive for many years; Irvin 'Magic' Johnson being one of them. He has been HIV positive for about thirteen years but has not developed AIDS. That's the kind of irresponsible thing that B.Trink used to say. So, let's not worry and forget about safe sex. I know someone who has had HiV for 15 years and is still very healthy, but again I know other less fortunate. I know someone who died in 2 years from contraction. They say the average is 7 years, so there are bound to be some like Magic. He will get AIDS soon.
June 12, 200421 yr Bernard Trink Remember how he wrote in his column that HIV did not cause AIDS. I wonder how many deaths he may have been "indirectly" responsible for. What was so pathetic about Trink was that he seemed to get most of his information out of paperback books written by conspiracy theorists and fame-seeking nobodys. And his source for the prevalence of AIDS in Patpong (i.e. there was none) was bar mamasans. Does anyone remember him ever admitting he was wrong about any part of the HIV/AIDS story?
