UK takes anyone regardless of finances... Just turn up there in a dingy on the South cost and you are sorted

Very true. Even if I go back to the UK I will have less rights (as I have been out of the UK for years) than these boat loads of people even though I am a Brit. Pathetic and weak = the British politicians.

MY GOD, I'M IN A STATE OF SHOCK! After all, I thought it was only my fellow Americans who had an insatiable appetite for fried hog blubber. ????

Listen very closely and you can actually hear their arteries hardening.

Chalk this one up. For once, I am agreeing with you. IMO those who have the necessary financial backing are NOT having problems with the Thai authorities.

The ones who used to turn up at their embassies and lie like pigs in s##t with false declarations are the ones who have been found out.

Rubbish. How about the guys.. Like me... Who used the combo method? My income USED TO BE more than 65k.. But the baht got stronger....so no problem.. I'll do the combo with income and savings. That's gone.. As of 2019.. for an extention.

If you are in reasonably good health and have a bit of money you can buy a small cruising sailboat and sail in Mexico and the Caribbean like I did with my wife for 4 years. Its not for everyone but for us It was the best time of our lives. We have had entire islands to ourselves in the Bahamas, seen volcanos erupt and enjoyed many cultures away from the tourist traps.  There can be some uncomfortable or even frightening times but for the most part the cruising was very enjoyable and not that expensive providing you have some basic mechanical skills.  In all the years we sailed in Mexico and the Caribbean including Cuba and Haiti and traveled through South and Central America, Europe and Asia I don't recall any visa issues like here in Thailand.

Combo method is being accepted by most offices now easier with income letters and harder without. But without income letters a PITA.

Really? Geeez. I can't keep up with the changes this year!

It's a moot point anyway. I'm off to Mexico next months. I have my permanent residency there. It's just too.. annoying.. Here.. and more uncertainty than Mexico.

Yes I do think combo method is accepted in most offices. With income letter much easier. Without income letter considering we're approaching next year, it would be much better to show the 12 full months of international transfers and probably never let the bank part go under 400K. Even then, no guarantees.

So have you decided where you want to move to in Mexico? I'm interested in Mexico myself (mostly Puebla/Cholula and Queretaro). I assume you would be seeking retirement status there.

Please post your experiences with all that on this thread:

Hi

Out of curiousity looked up climate and weather in Ecuador.

Summary

"Although Equador is not a particularly large country, there is great variety in the climate, largely determined by altitude. It is mild year-round in the mountain valleys; humid in the tropical Pacific coastal areas and the lowlands are covered with rain forests. Because of its location at the equator, Ecuador experiences little variation in daylight hours during the course of a year.

If you're visiting the beautiful Galápagos islands, you'll find that the warm rainy season from January to April is the best time for snorkeling; the rest of the year the water is cooler, around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit)."

Useful site, covers many other countries and the individual towns and cities within each country.

my 2 cents--first of all as I always say US is cheapest country in world except for chicks.

Secondly, its matter of income--if you can afford first class ticket you live anywhere.

Thirdly, being in same country is boring and I prefer moving.
