Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has made clear that Cambodia’s former opposition leader Sam Rainsy will be refused entry to Thailand on his way to the Cambodian border town of Poipet to celebrate Cambodia’s Independence Day on November 9th.

Responding to a reporter’s question about Rainsy’s request to enter Cambodia via Thailand, the Prime Minister said today that Thailand stands firmly by ASEAN’s commitment to non-interference in the domestic affairs of member countries and will not allow opponents of the Cambodian government to use Thai territory for political activities.

Thai Foreign Minister Don Paramudvinai said today he was not aware of Rainsy’s written request, addressed to the Prime Minister, which is reported to have been delivered to the Thai embassy in Paris, seeking permission to enter Thailand on November 8th on a Thai Airways International flight from Paris to attend Independence Day celebrations the following day.

Don said he was busy attending the ASEAN Summit and, therefore, had not seen Rainsy’s letter.

Sam should have just come in no fan fare, the biometrics would not have any

record against him and would have gone through no problem,

wanting to get press coverage and protection has undone him,

celebrating ones home countries special day can be done where ever you are, as many foreign locals do all around the world.

Khun Prayut Chan O Cha knows when to wheel the stick and when not too.

He's made his decision quite clear and as such ' Rainsy ' stays out.

Ha ha! Not quite sure if you meant 'wield the big stick', or 'wheel' as in he's 'put a spoke in it'?

So that's Cambodian Independence Day. How does our esteemed leader know that it's going to be political and not just social?

Did he do some frog-kissing to discover what might be happening?

I can't follow the logic in 'non-interference in the domestic affairs of member countries' and then 'will not allow opponents of the Cambodian government to use Thai territory for political activities'.

As Cadbury said about the two bleaders looking after each other's political interests.

Without referring to any particular Asian leader it is safe to assume that democratic opposition leaders generally are the arch enemy of dictators.

I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I really don't know what else Prayut could do under these circumstances. Rainsy seems to be trying to put Prayut on the spot, and there is nothing in it for Prayut to take the bait. One can have all the sympathy in the world for Rainsy, but Cambodia is a closed and lost case for the foreseeable future, and for Thailand to take sides will help no one. It has to come from within.

You are unbelievable.   Rainsey has done nothing wrong in Thailand.  Thailand is interfering with an internal dispute in another country.
