Locals point the finger of blame at husband in Surat Thani burial case

Thai caption: I don't believe she fainted and died

Thai media was speculating wildly after two children went to the police in Tha Chana, Surat Thani to say that their mother was buried under the toilets in a market.

Sommai, 17, had told his elder sister Amporn, 24  a few days ago that two years ago their father had ordered him to help bury his mother. He said that if he didn't help him he would be killed.

The father claimed that their mother had fainted in an orchard. He tried to take her home but she died and he decided that he was going to bury her there.

The orchard is now the site of a new market.

The police have arrested Sommai and his father Somboon, 52.

Buppha, 58, went missing two years ago. Somboon has changed his story many times. He said she fainted and he told his son he didn't have money for the funeral so they buried her.

He also told some people after she went missing that she had gone to stay with relatives in Ranong.

Pranorm, 58, told Sanook that she was a close friend of the woman she believes is buried under the market.

She said she was healthy despite being an alcoholic. She believes - along with others in the area - that she was attacked by her husband. They had seen signs of this on her body before.

She said that she often fell over due to drink but did not pass out.

The people who built the market want assurances about who is going to pay if the area is dug up to find the body.

They say it will cost 2 million baht to put right again.

They don't believe, due to inconsistencies in the husband's story about exactly when he buried the body, that she is buried there at all.

Investigations continue.

The police say they have nothing to go on.

Which only goes to prove you just can't beat the cistern.

Yep, that´s right. Market toilets made out of pure gold.
