Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Fishy Log - 18-10-2023 - Wednesday morning Called into the fish whole-seller on the way to Udon. There were three sellers - on this side of the highway - years ago. Only one open at the present. There is another further south towards Udon on the H2, but it's right in the middle of the highway road improvements, so shut at the mo. Went looking for some pink catfish. No luck there. Lots of other stuff to look at though. Frogs. Mildred having a wander around. The Mekongs were in the pink containers. 50 baht each. Just couldn't say no to the Pla Dook. Had three prices to choose from. The tiny one baht, one and a half baht, and the one we went for, the two baht each, bigger ones. The original plan was to pick them up about 16-00. That would have given time to take pics at the Sum Sao Wat, and relax at home for a short while, before releasing the fish into the farm ponds; well before dark. Due to battery probs, we didn't pick the fish up til 17-45. Arrived home at 18-45. What to do with the fish? Couldn't leave them in the back of Mazza with those inquisitive cats. So they had to come inside. And anyway, there was only so much oxygen available in the bags. We sorted out the fish. Mrs Owl was 'yak yaking' all the while about anything and everything and nothing. Put the 250 Dook into the big container. Mekongs were treated to their own ponds. Had to cover them. Just in case. Without the top covered the Dooks would have jumped out. A few did, but Mildred caught them. Next morning it was back into the bags they arrived in, ready to be taken to the farm. Mildred released all 250 Dooks into pond 5. VID_20231011_121345(1).mp4 My job letting the Mekongs go into number three pond. Don't really know how they will fare in the ponds. I think OK; but yer never know. Fish go missing. Fish die. Generally speaking, for the first few years, they triple their weight every 12 months. Then that drops to double when they reach 10 kilos. Once they get to 50 kilos, weight progress is quite slow. But Mekongs can get to 200 kilos. To get that much depends upon water quality and the amount of food available. If the fish are to attain monster status they need space and lots of food which they are unlikely to get in a small pond like ours. These ones certainly seem to be 'big-headed', so could put weight on fast. And that was that. Then it was off to pick up Mildred's cat (last Owl Log).. Still hoping for those pink Dookies. Only one thing left to say; seez yer Sunday. Edited October 18, 2023 by owl sees all
owl sees all
A little footy teaser. In three parts. Can use Google, Yahoo or DDG. Or just guess. But yer might know the answers anyway. 1/ What was the first southern team to get a top 3 finish in the top league? 2/ What was the first London team to get a top 3 finish in the top league? 3/ What was the first southern team to win the top league? Hint - all three are playing in the top two leagues this season. Thailand got a very creditable draw in their last match against Estonia. 1-1 on Tuesday. whistersniff
This is easily the best thread I’ve read on this forum. Quality posts, @owl sees all Does anyone have recommendations for a village I can visit in Isaan that has a small hotel? Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 22-10-2023 - Sunday afternoon Another eventful week. We have one of those tubes with a slot in the top. In England - back in the day - they were known as piggy-banks. Me and Mildred spent an hour counting out the change on Thursday. All told; 3940 baht. We separated the coins and bagged them up into 500s. The following day we took them to Mildred's bank (the pink one) in Ban Dung. The procedure is to put the dosh in a sealed bag with the bank-book. Had to give over her mobile number. Should get a call on Monday to pick up the book. Back to school on Tuesday. Just early enough finish to get over there before closing. Mrs Owl not best pleased to see all that dosh going somewhere other than her pocket. So near; yet so far! Earlier in the week we went to Ban Dung for shopping. Also bought Mildred some red paint for her cat project. The cat was a prezzie for her birthday on the 19th just gone. Coming along. Slow but sure. She wants to put it on a concrete ring, and place it outside the house. No problem with that. Just have to go and get one. Paint it silver. Should look good. Don't think anyone will have it away. We also visited the daily market. The ladies went off to do their thing. Spending money. While I spend my time taking pics of the nice people and there goods. Too many pics for the Sunday Log, so I'll do a 'market special' later. But I was attracted to one particular stall. There were some big terrapins for sale. vid - terrapins.mp4 The lady was a little surprised that I was asking about them. Perhaps she thought I was gonna eat them with me morning cup of Rosy!! Couldn't resist buying a couple. 100 baht each. When we got back home, I put a bowl of water in the back of the Mazza for them. Almost identical. Terra twins. At the farm it was my job to let them go. And away they went. Doges thinking 'this is unusual'. In other farms, normally, someone is catching them. Don't know if we will see them again. Hope so. Might get some more. The leccy people are racing ahead. Two different posts. There's the ordinary one. And every so often there's the super one. Went to a meeting about the leccy last week. All the people that live on the local farms were there. Mrs Owl looked as though she was understanding proceedings, so I went walk about. So pleaded I did. At the old Nocatar (Grouse) farm, they had changed track. Now they are breeding special grasshoppers for the table. I say special, but they looked a bit like the ones back in England. Only brown instead of green We all know that bugs are the future. McDonalds are gonna do chocolate coated ones for their special 'cricket burger'. (Only joking!) I'll take mine with cheese please. And it was on to the next farm. Piggies. Lots of them. I like pigs. In fact they are one of the animals that I don't like to eat. To be more precise; anything with four legs. That obviously rules out crocs and giraffes. Pigs also. So I know I'm limiting myself as far as food goes. And even worse. If I've fed it; I'll not eat it. As I wandered even further afield, I could hear quacking in the distance. 800 ducks greeted me when I looked over the fence. vid - lots of ducks.mp4 The Mrs had joined me. They had found out what direction I had walked in and Gann had brought her over on his motorcycle to tell me the meeting had finished. Bella's farm is always hectic. What with the cows, the chickens and the older dogs; and the new arrivals. Curly Wurly sleeping. Not bothered by the puppies scurrying about, or the chickens making a racket. I Just threw some chicken food and Milo is tucking in. Bella's mum getting things organised. Her daughter is in Singapore at the present. Soon they will not need mum. But in the meantime. The lean-to for the truck is finished. Grand job. BeeApp was gonna do some grass cutting and clearing up for us. The day before, Mrs Owl went round banging in stakes, and tying on bits of something to let him know where the newly planted tree-lings were. If that's not done. they would just get chopped. Watch that hammer dear! BeeApp started yesterday. Mrs Owl said for him to move the PVC pipes. I went there at lunch time and couldn't see the pipes anywhere. But then! Spotted one behind the rice shed. I followed it along. Well I never!? Was is BeeApp's inspiration, the Lao Khow or the Mrs' instructions? Might never know. He came back from lunch and got stuck in. I was in the hammock. Mildred had gone to see a local friend and I was waiting for her call. Was looking at the new phone trying different settings. Saw a nice cloud coming over. Think I'm getting the hang of it at last. Man City and Pool march on. Toon get a very decent result again. Owls are in deep poo poo. Peacocks go two behind and come back to win away against Canaries. Foxes break Championship records with their away win in Wales. There is F1, Cricket and Rugby going on. Ladies' footy also. Just not interested in them. Mildred back at school on the 24th. The time has flown by. There are things going on. I can't find out what the details are for now. The leccy meeting went off OK?. News on that soon. Also a new solar panel water set up is on the cards. Again! Some news soon. Still not seen any Mekongs or Dooks. Spent a good half hour watching the ponds yesterday. They will show up soon. I'm learning about our snails. They love to eat the wrappers of tinned food. Also standard A4 paper. They don't like tissue and are not that fond of kitchen roll paper, although they do like to nibble at it. Dogs went bananas in the night. Mrs Owl went out and said to be quiet. This morning at seven I went out and was met with a big dead crab. Crab killers! That what guard dogs are for. Robert has got a fetish for grabbing women's clothing, when it's time to go out. Today he get hold of one of Mrs Owl's nice new trousers. She was not best pleased with him. It's his birthday on Wednesday. One year old. Still keeping with my 'bathroom yoga' programme. No rain for 12 days. Some early rice is being cut, but most will not be ready for another 4 weeks. Leccy bill late this month. Usually get it on the 20th. Not turned up yet. Only one thing left to say; bye y'all. Music while you shop at the Ban Dung market. Edited October 22, 2023 by owl sees all 8

Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Market Log Had a wander about in the Ban Dung Daily Market last week. It was busy at the time, about 4, and gets even more so, until 6 when it gradually packs up. At the town end there was some very pleasant music. vid - music while you shop.mp4 A lot of the market is dedicated to food. The far end is clothing and footwear. I didn't venture that far. Pla Nin. Generally known as Talapia. Pig tails. Shrimps and small fish. Crabs in a line. Food being cooked. Some big frogs. And toads. Plenty of insect delicacies on offer. I bought two terrapins (last Owl Log). Contemplated buying some fish and toads, but Mildred said I'd spent enough. I walked on, hoping to see some pink Dook. No! So picked up me terrapins and made my way out and back to the Mazza. Only one thing left to say; take care out there. rickudon
Hi Owl, glad to see you sorted out the Pickup Problem. could do with the AA here! The connection to the positive was not secure, so it never charged when on the move. A new battery is the answer. I should have some spare dosh next year. I'll have to give the AA man a little something for his help; next visit. Three weeks to get your new PP returned. That is quick! Mine took seven weeks earlier in the year. Have to do Mildred's soon; 2024 for that. 15 days since the last rain here. Mrs Owl reckons rain on Saturday afternoon. I'm not so optimistic. Since globalisation, there are small chances to get local produce veggies or fruit, from any squeeky clean supermarket in the west. Just stick to the universal mantra. Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 29-20-2023 - Sunday afternoon I do occasionally venture outside Thailand, into that little place known as the world. Did so in the week. Cornwall, in England, has been put on the map by 'snails'!! I kid you not. The whole world is intrigued. I delved into the saga. It turns out that this species of snail likes to eat the glue that holds a letter together. And they are getting into the post box and munching away. The local post office has put a notice on the box to inform the would-be posters of the dangers lurking inside. It goes on to say that there is no evidence that the snails are actually reading the letters. But beware all the same. And here is the culprit. Proper name 'Snailuscornwallus'. Why is this significant? What has this got to do with our humble abode in Isaan? Because we have our own snailery. We have 23 at the mo. Two different varieties. This morning I tried them with a slither or two of carrot. Mildred says to put a potted plant in there. But if they eat the carrot,,, well food problem solved. Also put the empty tins of cat food in their house. The love the coverings. A bit like their English cousins that. Mildred has finished her cat. All that is required is for me to make some whiskers for it. I think thread coated with some glue would do it. Stiff, but not too stiff for the pussy. Looking good! Hope to get a stand later today. That will be painted up in Mildred's best imagination. The pineapple tree has already produced two fine fruits. Will we get a third? And right next door there are creepers. Doing rather well too. I've been training it/them to climb the post. Just to finish off the house nature section; there is the rice paddy. Will be nice to see some actual rice showing. Only had dismal failures up til now. It's official. There is no more wall for the artist's work to be mounted. The living room wall is just about filled. And the one vacant spot in the bedroom now has 4 paintings on show. That's opposite where I lay me head. Have to sweet talk the Mrs into giving up her wall. Money could do it. No rain for 15 days, then we had some on Saturday morning. But the day before We were watering at the farm. This is one of the avocados. High hopes for some fruit later. These ones a little smaller, and already one is looking poorly. Not a good pic that Mildred. Must do better. Mrs Owl does her dozen or so every three days. What a lovely evening! Couldn't resist a pic of the ponds as the sun slipped below the euca trees. And the Mrs got herself out of the way. And of course, one has to rest. Watching Ban Bam naturally. Or is that BamBam? She's a big GOT7 fan. Poom is not round the farm so much during school time, but his little cousin is. That is grand-ma and uncle 'E' looking on. When I go to our farm, I wander over to Bella's, next door to ours, to give the chickens and dogs some grub. Avo tree in the foreground. The leaning tree rear. Will it fall this dry season? ++++++++++++++++++++ Leyton Orient get a good away point. Aveley win away. Pecocks and Saints win well. If the Owls can't beat their lowly neighbours today, there is no hope for them. Easiest match to get points from, so far this season. Wednesday 2 - Rotherham 0. War still going on in Ukraine, but seems to be a bit slow in action; compared with Israel. Heard that the Americans have started patrolling over Syria with their F-16s. Trouble brewing in the south China Sea. Dear me! Must get some provisions ready. Have to get along to Udon this week. I'll pop in to see a mate before returning. Will take some pics of the Sum Sao Wat too. Must sort out my 12m pix Samsung camera. Garry gave me the address. I'll pop in to see if they can help. Still no luck downloading a video editor. Tried a couple 'vidcutter' and shotslicer' but not yet. Did find a free online ''3gp to mp4'' converter though. So that's sorted. No sign of the terrapins. Or the new Mekongs. Or the kois. Or the Dooks even. That's it with the rain. Just enough yesterday to get the rice to prosper and blossom. Next rain April 2024. Been busy this week with this new leccy plan. Mrs Owl has had to supply paperwork to the PEA. TBH, I'm not keen on the whole thing. We will lose sovereignty over the road and, although we will have leccy, we have managed for years without it. Do we need it? Speaking of Leccy; bill dropped considerably from previous. 700 baht difference. Must be a rebate. Bloody fireworks. I'm a nervous wreck. Started another water fast. Gonna try to keep it going for 3/4 days. Hard at the mo. I'm starving! Only one thing left to say; take care out there. Look interesting. There is one that I found in the week. I didn't do bad, but my 11 from 15 says I failed. https://vaccinequiz.org/quiz/us/ Off to Udon in a few hours. A few things to do. Number one is get some cheese in. Then feed the fish in the pond opposite the VP store. Get my camera put in the Samsung shop. Take some pics at the Sum Sao Wal. And if I have time I'll pop in to get my visa extension. Gonna charge up the Mazza battery before I leave.
Andrew Dwyer
Wednesday might have found the faith they were looking for, look at Leeds ! had a terrible terrible start to the season but once they got their confidence back they shot up to where they should be, although Leicester away this weekend might be a stretch for them. Did post at the beginning of the season that I thought all three relegated teams; Peacocks, Foxes and Saints, were all good enough to get straight back up. Well! As it stands they are all in with a shout for sure. Saints also had a terrible spell, but came through it. Loved the Anchor cheese. Loved it more than the Horeca. And just like you Andy, if I have it, I eat it. Don't know about too much though. Will also be getting at least 2kg today. Didn't Cliff Richard live on tea and cheese for 6 months, some years ago? And the dutch, only ate cheese for yonks. Is that's why they are the tallest people in the world? The pygmies, on the other hand, never ate any. Yesterday I put the ice packs in the freezer ready for the cheese. These little poly boxes are great.

It seems that the Dutch women like tall men. They would get hitched, and she would feed hubby lots of cheese. Their offspring would be that little bit taller, which was attractive to other tall people. And so it progressed. Now the average Dutch person (combined sexes) is around 6 foot. That's about 1.83m in Euro lingo. Keep gobbling down that cheese bro, and your offspring could be taller than you. And the Gt Grandchildren; giants!
