BANGKOK(NNT) - Thailand has raised the topic of border area management and planned anti-extremist action, for discussion at the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC).

The 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related meetings commenced today with Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) meeting to prepare the agenda for the ministerial meeting, such as the endorsement of the Plan of Action to Prevent and Counter the Rise of Radicalization and Violent Extremism 2018-2025.

The Royal Thai Police assistant commissioner general Pol Lt Gen Wissanu Prasarthongosot, announced today that Thailand will be pursuing the closer management of border areas, due to an increase in transnational crimes involving digital crime and drugs, as well as urging commitment to collaborative efforts to reduce obstacles between countries, to strengthen the suppression of transnational crime. He said Thailand has been pursuing this agenda for some 10 years now.

As part of AMMTC related meetings, a first ever ministerial meeting on transnational crime with partner countries, China, Japan, and South Korea will be taking place to intensify suppression of transnational crime and further discuss border challenges.

The main event tomorrow will be a full ministerial meeting on transnational crime, where Deputy Minister of Defence Gen Chinchan Changmongkon will lead Thai officials, and present to the meeting outcomes of the SOMTC today.
