If an replacement or repaired electronics item is being returned to me by manufacturer, do you have to pay an import duty?  If not, how do you go about making sure it comes in duty-free.  I have a GPS (purchased in the USA) which I need to send back to USA for warranty service, so I've already had to pay duty on it once.  I really would like to avoid having to pay again for the same item.

If charged by the Thai Customs, you need to keep proof you sent it to the USA. Submit that evidence with your claim for the return of any duty imposed. The form to do so is available from your Post Office.

 

In short, keep all receipts and evidence, there should be no issue.

 

All this is subject to what is marked on the parcel when it is sent back(value) and whether or not it is stopped at all.

 

... and your Thai Home Address is most likely still in the GPSs travel history!

I had a US company send me a part that was covered under warranty. I asked them to make sure that the shipping document showed it was warranty & the  cost was $0.00 to me. I also asked the to place a label on the box noting it was "Warranty - No Charge to Customer"

 

Item was delivered by Thai Post & no duty was applied.
