In total 56% would be destitute within 6 months.

  • I think that would apply to most people, in most countries, not just Thai,

  • But it's just as the pooyay like it. These circumstances almost guarantee a compliant and obedient workforce.   It's not an accident.

  • This is not only people in Thailand, it's most middle class people in the US and Europe.

In reality it's probably closer to 6 days, not 6 months, for the rural poor who have moved to the cities and have to pay rent. No rent money, quickly kicked out.

First I don't believe this as 6 months is a very long time with no money coming in. There seems to be lots of millionaires on here except from the real world or living in a fantasy world. Living more than a few months with zero income and having to pay car loans, mortgages, credit card, school fees and feeding ones family is wishful thinking for most. Most thais struggle day to day in rural areas and people starve when it rains for a week or so therfore unable to work as most paid day to day. This is where the loan sharks make their killing.

Are you referring to the Thais or expats on this forum? Any retiree who is on the bank method can easily live a whole year on the 800k in the bank. Renewing the extension is a different issue.

and they couldn't last 1 month but they have a certain amount of social security and food banks, good sleeping bags and strong cardboard boxes.

Europe: Compared to US citizens, Europeans are apparently in worse shape.

It says something about their savings. But with social security, unemployment benefits and so on, most Europeans can survive until the end of their days without even thinking of working. I do not think it is ideal but the other extreme of suffering from hunger or not getting medical treatment if you don´t have savings, is worse.
