The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is readying measures to counter air pollution caused by increased PM2.5 particulate matter, said secretary-general Wanchai Panomchai.

“We are drawing up regulatory standards for air purifiers to make these efficient in tackling PM2.5 and eliminate odors in households and industrial facilities,” he said. “It is expected to be completed and ready for enforcement later this year.”

The institute has already announced industrial standards for sugarcane harvesters (TIS 2773-2560) that can efficiently minimise leftovers and hence reduce the need to burn fields, which is one of the main factors causing PM2.5 pollution, he added.

“The TISI will also enforce emission standards for motorcycles [TIS 2915-2561], so they are in line with the Euro 4 standard by mid-2020, while standards for small and large motor vehicles will be in line with Euro 5 and Euro 6, both of which will be enforced soon after,” Wanchai said.

Other industrial standards announced relate to various products aimed at tackling air pollution, such as respiratory protection devices (TIS 2382-2551), single-use hygienic masks (TIS 2424-2562) and N95 surgical masks (TIS 2480-2562).

“As for the existing standard for air purifiers [TIS 1516-2549], it covers only usage safety, such as electric shock prevention and is yet to cover efficiency in dust particle purification,” Wanchai added.

The TISI will also enforce emission standards for motorcycles

 Etc etc etc....

WRONG!!!!

TISI will enforce nothing!  At least for existing vehicles and motorcycles.

Whether the police will actually enforce such standards for existing vehicles is an entirely different question.

And whether new car and motorcycle manufacturers will be required to meet said standards in the new vehicles they produce for sale in Thailand likewise is an entirely different question.

I would like to see tougher measures taken with regard to smoke belching pick-ups, buses and heavy truck's.  It would require the police to get motivated and pull over the bad boys......and the RW testers to report failed vehicles tested at annual inspection.  I Don't think I had seen a late model car,  pick up or truck belching smoke.

Well today i passed 2 roadblocks from the police, don't know what they were doing but they were all over the main road and stopping vehicles. And this time they were not on the same spot as usual, just on the middle of chaeng wattana.

Why bother? Nobody adheres to anything here.

Will those surgical face masks realy filter out the PM 2.5 particles? I wouldn't have thought so!
I would have thought air would have to pass through a special filter,

with those surgical masks you just kind of breath air in and out from the side?
Think they are only really designed to stop surgeons spitting inside their patients.

Why bother with standards, laws or anything else when enforcement is zero. Junta had it's chance, it should have fired the entire police force and banned anyone even remotely related to them from government work for a minimum of 50 generations to get rid of any corrupt DNA. Now it's all completely useless.

Bit of a generalisation "ALL pickups"!
