Police arrest school director for Lopburi shopping mall shooting - reports

2_69.jpg

Thai police are expected to announce the arrest of a man wanted for killing three people at a shopping mall in Lopburi earlier this month.

Multiple Thai news sites report the 38 year old is believed to be a senior civil servant and is either a teacher and/or director at a school in neighbouring Singburi province.

Naew Na reported that the man is a teacher. He was arrested in Singburi and taken to a "safe house" where he admitted his involvement.

Daily News reported that he was a teacher and a school director in Singburi.

They further suggested that their sources indicated that the primary motive for the incident was NOT robbery.

They gave no further details.

Unconfirmed reports said the man confessed to the killing three people, including a two year old child, as well as seriously injuring four others and stealing gold worth more than 500,000 baht in the robbery at the Aurora gold shop at Robinsons in Lopburi on the evening of Thursday January 9th.

He used a gun with a silencer, with the whole incident caught on CCTV.

He then fled on a motorcycle.

This prompted a huge manhunt in a case that has shocked the nation.

Thairath reported that two days after the incident the man was out having lunch with his girlfriend, very much carrying on with his own life like nothing had happened.

The man is currently being at Lopburi police station.

A press conference is due to be held imminently, where police are expected to reveal more details about the arrest.

Interesting. Are they then suggesting that he went there to murder someone and the robbery was a diversion? Would surely have been easier to do the murder away from the CCTV.

The race is on, to his house, the school where he taught, interviewing the kids he taught, media frenzy.

But, well done RTP !!

if there is enough material evidence proving his guilt beyond any doubts, this is another case where I wouldn't understand the benefits of keeping him alive in a prison.

Sounds like a very fast confession by this ruthless killer only ever seams possible here ????

Sweat? From where the soles of his shoes? They got him, but I think the DNA claim might be wishful thinking....

Either way kudos!!

They need to find the loot and tie it to him. Channel 3 is showing blurred-out images of the dude.

seems to be a crime most wouldnt dare admit to but sure enough. can only guess they had some evidence on him know one else knew about. Seems the guy was a dum after all..

From an early report I saw, it said he shot one of the female employees 3 times. Told my wife - *That was not a robbery. it was a hit*

Calm down guys we all know how things work here

Should be able to pay off a large part of his teacher's debt that they all are reported to have.

There goes a dead man... really really dead...

Yes, my thoughts too, the female employee he could guarantee would be in that place at that time, the others who were shot were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They say he is held at an army camp (one of the few places where he can survive I guess), national police chief on the way by chopper.

The suspect in the Lopburi gold heist case, who also allegedly killed three people on January 9, was arrested on Wednesday (January 22), police reports said.

National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda will later provide further information.

On Wednesday morning, the forensic team was preparing evidence to issue an arrest warrant. They used DNA from sweat at the scene to identify the suspect.

The report identified the suspect, Prasittichai Khaokaew, as a firearms coach and director of Wat Pho Chai School in Singburi province. He has reportedly confessed to the crimes and his motive is being investigated.

Thai netizens have shared a picture of the suspect celebrating Children’s Day on his Facebook account two days after allegedly murdering three people, including a two-year-old boy.

A crime of passion? What, here in a patriarch Buddhist Thailand? Apologies, not really a joking matter for that poor innocent child victim. I hope he gets his just reward if it's proven to be beyond scientific evidence doubt that he was the killer.
