A year ago I bought an Omron blood pressure meter to monitor my blood pressure daily. I have been on a beta blocker and blood pressure meds for a long time and wanted to assess if I may have to stop, reduce or increase dosage. I take these as  result of having 3 stents about 10 years ago after having been diagnosed with angina. I have had no symptoms since. After some reports on Dr Google I recently changed from taking my meds in the morning to evening, findings reporting they are more effective if taken before sleep.

Everything appears to be very normal apart from most days, my first reading around 6 am when I get up is creeping into the HIGH bracket. Today it was 145/87. my highest reading in about 6 months. Just an hour or more later it's a perfectly normal 120/80 or thereabouts. It stays normal all day right till my last reading around 10 PM. I realise I am bit off the danger level of 180/120 but it's got me thinking.

Back in the UK I would be due a cardio check, and being aware that mornings are the most common time for strokes and heart events, am wondering if it would be worthwhile getting a cardio check at a decent hospital?

Are you averaging three in a row?

Hi - do you mean 3 high readings in a row?

If so, no, as soon as I get up I take a reading, 10 or 15 minutes later it's on the way down. It's very much a first thing in the morning, first reading. If I forget at 6 am and take the first one later, it's usually ok.

I get a daily and weekly average from the app. On the graphs it doesn't look so bad.

I wouldn't worry because of the BP as it sounds like usually in mormal range.

But with your history periodic cardiac checks are advisable.

Sheryl wasn't there a study recently that confirmed that taking Blood pressure meds at night was now preferable ?

Yes there were a few claiming this so I changed. As far as I can see it's not made any difference, which is fine with me. Worth a try though.

Thanks, maybe when I need to go to Bangkok I can ask you to recommend a good cardio clinic/specialist? It's easy to find a good hospital there, but not always a good doctor in my experience.

Thanks.

Is this a private place? Don't appear to have an English website.

Yes, it is a non profit private hospital. Most of these don't have English websites

It is on Silom near Saladaeng BTS

Open the site in Google Chrome and it will translate for you

Dr. Taworn speaks perfect English, trained in the US
