He has told the tourists not to believe rumors circulating on social media,

When an official, a minister of a banana republique tells me something like that, I invariably understand the opposite.

In particular he has told everyone to carry on spending at places like the big department stores in Thailand, all of which have measures in place to tackle the health emergency.

Unbelievable, this kind of remark shows a complete lack of professional decorum, However, it does paint a good picture of what the government must be thinking........

The uniform he is wearing in the photo is a civil service uniform, not army uniform.

Yes i do agree with you about the diatribe he is spouting.

But I must admit, things would be a bit more charming if the first person you saw asking for your money was someone in an Hawaiian shirt, wearing a lei, and strumming a ukulele.

He has told the tourists not to believe rumours circulating on social media same ThaiVisa

The media mentioned Paragon, Discovery Center, Siam Center and Icon Siam, if you buy on this place your are safe.

I'm loving the humour on here people, thanks very much for the smiles ????

However, on a more serious point, I have noticed that on almost every thread connected to this virus & Thailand, the main theme is the money, or more accurately the money they aren't going to make. Previous to this thread I was reading that the Pattaya authorities are pondering what to do ?? They have considered making Nong Nooch free, but only to Thais and are concerned mainly at the loss of revenue & not peoples safety, nearly every thread/article has the same theme. Disgusting really.

"dont panic" seems sound advice to me. What SHOULD his advice be?? "Stay all day in your hotel room and prepare to die."?

If these people tell you not to panic, it is probably high time to just that!

:coffee1:

Well Thais do have a lot of alcohol on hand so that should the virus at bay...

Love this guys comedy routine, one of the best stand ups I've seen in a while lol.

Who can smell the scent of Brown envelopes making the rounds???

go out and party hard...

so huge areas and millions of people in China are on lockdown and this idiot is telling people to gather in large numbers in confined places and go shopping

He needs to waken up

It's a Win, Win for Thailand.

They come and spend lots of money and if they get sick put them in a hospital like BHP and charge them a fortune while they recover.

I am sure the officials in Wuhan had the same thoughts, until they realised it would be a good idea to lockdown a few cities...

Starting from the 1st February all Tourists will be questioned and searched to see if they are carrying any money. If so they will be escorted to the Duty Free rip off shops where they must spend all their money except $50 (Taxi fare home from airport !) Furthermore,  they will not get their 7% VAT refund.

this statement by the tourism minister is beyond belief. he has not shown any concern for the health welfare of the people but only in his myopic tourism dollar. besides shopping the tourists will also be interacting in the public during their sightseeing visits. the tourism minister should be addressing concern about that rather than "keep on spending". what a selfish interest is this?

"Don't panic". Reminds me a little bit of the captain on the Titanic.

Wonder if they have sent in extra forces to clean the dance poles at places like Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy etc.?

Or guess they think there is not much risk of it spreading there.

why can't Thailand clean up it's act and be more like Singapore?

Irresponsible reporting or irresponsible comments from a person who should hold his citizens good health paramount not babbling on about what he has been told to say
