China doesnt track disease properly either. This is mostly in China. When this first started China was covering it up and putting dead people cause of death as from other things to hide it. 

 

The argument that "Flu isnt tracked right so its worse" to say its more deadly really doesnt cut it when the same thing is happening with this. 

 

I already have a flu shot so im not worried about the Flu. When this has a shot I can get I wont worry so much about this.

One problem with Google is that it makes data available to people who do not have the background to fully understand it.

Just a heads up theirs this thing called a flu shot that gets redone every year to be up to date for the new strain of the flu. Its 50-60% effective at stopping the Flu completely. I don't understand why all those saying "its just the flu" do not go to Wuhan and explain this to the medical staff working there 24/7 at overcrowded hospitals. I am sure they would be happy to just go home and get some sleep.

This is not about the death rate, but how many people need medical attention if infected. The amount of critical cases is high with this virus and if it spreads fast (which is the case) it can take down even the best prepared health care systems. Even the death rate of normal flu would rise in that case. Any country or city has the potential to becoming the next Wuhan. And that it why this is serious.

It is not for fun that China is building new hospitals and locking down huge cities, at huge economical costs. So comparing to e.g. flu deaths is simply stupid and narrow minded. Because if we just let this thing spread, then every country would end up in the situation China is in right now.

 

If people are not able to look at Wuhan and understand this is bad for any city/nation, then... Well I have no words.

At the start they were hiding it. It was going on for weeks before it came out. 

 

No I'm taking the data and reading it as what it is since thats the data.I say "this is what the data says" You say "no the data is wrong I know the right data". I go "if thats the case then the data could be wrong the other way".  You're twisting the data to make it prove your point.

 

To anyone concerned about the flu. Get the shot its pretty effective ive had it for 10 years and yet to get the Flu. Many people dont for whatever reason.

It is interesting and it just happened to be the site I was looking at.It's really hard to get any sort of accurate figures as they say many will be infected without knowing or reporting it and duelling with website quotes of figures is rather pointless apart from I'm right and your wrong aspect.There seems to be a huge effort to try and stop the spread of this virus which is to be commended in my opinion and I'm not suggesting that this won't be disastrous but I'm not suggesting that it will be either.

If this as an earlier poster suggest went though the Thai population killing 2% that is 1.32 million and globally that's about 150 million deaths so it's quite easy to scare the pants off people with scary numbers and what if scenarios.I have no way of knowing what's going to happen if I did I would buy a winning lottery ticket and hope I didn't get run over on my way to cashing it in.

The death rate is not the issue now but the speed it is spreading. Silly ones don't compare it with anything else. This is the <deleted> big time! Yeah but a virus wouldnt be caught by every single person in the country.  

 

The point is shrugging off this new virusas the same as the flu is foolish. The flu has a shot. Sure more people should get the flu shot and dont. This doesnt have a shot. 

 

50mill people are currently locked down in China. If something like that happened here it would be awful. The Flu isnt going to do that to the country.

The death rate, sadly, is not the real issue.

It's the cost to over stretched health services and their ability or lack of to deal with, if it takes off, the vast number of people who might get sick.

If ( small word, big meaning ) it spread rapidly in say BKK or any other big city it's the disruption caused and the end cost of that disruption that's the major problem. Think about a factory workforce being hit and take it from there.
