BANGKOK(NNT) - U-Tapao International Airport in Rayong is another airport in Thailand handling flights to and from many Chinese destinations. The airport has implemented health control protocols to check the body temperatures of all arriving and departing passengers using thermal imaging cameras, with quarantine facilities available for passengers suspected of fever.

Scheduled and chartered flights from China continue to land and take off from U-Tapao International Airport where strict health control measures are being enforced. Low cost carrier AirAsia has already cancelled all flights from U-Tapao to China, with Vietjet to follow suit from 2nd February onwards.

Two health control checkpoints have been set up inside the airport with thermal imaging cameras, inspecting both arriving and departing passengers. Any passengers whose body temperature exceeds 37.5 degree celsius will be further tested. There have been no reports of suspect passengers so far.

U-Tapao Airport Director Vice Adm Kritchapol Rengjumnong said today that the airport is implementing strict health screening, and is working with heath control officials in preparation to activate the higest measures if required.

Deputy Minister of Transport Atirat Ratanasate, has ordered the Port Authority of Thailand to be on watch for possible coronavirus cases among cargo ship crew from affected areas, at all ports in Thailand.

The Port Authority of Thailand has called on all companies to report the schedule of ships arriving at Bangkok ports no less than 24 hours in advance.

The port in front of Samut Prakan City Hall is now designated a health control checkpoint for crew. Any ship or vessel having a crew member onboard who has fever, along with respiratory symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, runny nose, or breathing difficulties must report the complete manifest of crew members onboard to the authorities, and dock the vessel off shore.

No illnesses have been discovered from this health inspection of boat crews from 2nd to 26th January.

so lets get this right

a plane has gone to pick up Thais stranded in China and when they arrive back in Thailand they will be quarantined for 14 days

Hundreds are still arriving from China on holiday and all they are doing is scanning them which we now know to be ineffective at identifying all those infected

Well done Thailand another international first for administrative stupidity

Same in the USA. the government evacuation of embassy officials is quarantined but hundreds of flights nothing.    Plus what is "further testing "?   Do they  have the test  kits?  And how long to get results?  I just feel Thailand's health care system cant handle a real epidemic.

Thailand really needs to stop flight arriving from China, also stop visa on arrival for all Chinese citizens, as many Chinese do 2 centre holidays 2 week in Cambodia or Vietnam then 2 weeks in Thailand, they need to get tough, or they will never stop the spread of this virus and the long term damage to the tourist industry of Thailand...

Effectively ;
Thailand has still not understood that the best way to prevent the spread of this virus as much as possible is to close the borders; therefore
- suppression of all flights from anywhere and not only from China.
- quarantining of passengers of boats wishing to disembark from anywhere and not only from China;
ditto with the land borders ..
If you live in Nong Khai, it's an almost uninterrupted stream of heavyweights coming and going from Laos crossing the Friendship Bridge n ° 1
I am convinced that the Thai authorities are completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of the thing and also that the genial general is mainly under the orders of the Premier of China.

Taking the temperature of passengers is as effective as putting merchurochrome on a wooden leg since the virus has the freedom to appear between 1 and 14 days.
