BANGKOK (NNT) The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) will consult with face mask and hand washing gel manufacturers tomorrow, to ensure that the number of products being made will meet the demand of consumers. The public meanwhile, is asked not to buy them in excess.

Mr Prayoat Phensut, Deputy Director General of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT), said today the DIT has invited more than 20 alcohol, face mask, and hand washing gel manufacturers and importers to attend a meeting to assess consumer demand for the products used to protect themselves against the corona virus and PM 2.5.

The meeting comes after discussions on the issue with face mask importers last week and being informed of the quantity of products available. He has confirmed that the number of face masks in the country is sufficient to meet consumer demand for at least another 4-5 months without problems.

However, due to people’s panic about the corona virus and PM 2.5, face masks, alcohol and hand washing gel are being purchased for hoarding, resulting in shortages of the products in markets in some areas. The effectiveness of a face mask is usually about eight hours. He expressed his confidence, that if people don’t excessively buy face masks, the current number of masks available in the market will be sufficient in the present circumstances.

Have been in HK this weekend. Mask and temp check required to get into some buildings. Lucky I had a packet of Korean masks in my bag. NO masks or gels available at chains that won't profiteer Watsons or Mannings.  Saw some long queues elsewhere, "unmarmaked" small bottles of hand gel, and small stores displaying masks, passersby just shaking their heads. Must have been ridiculous price with no takers.

PharmaChoice in Chiang Mai would only sell 2 packs per day of 3m brand per customer.  No I wasn't hording.  I wanted one pack for my wife and one for sister in law flying in from NZ for family funeral.

Also excessive use. Masks are only really required if people sneeze less than a metre from  you, or if you're in really crowded areas - but these clowns are wearing them all over the shop.

All we need now is for someone to suggest they wear some gloves to protect against picking up the virus when opening doors... or handling the taps in the washrooms.

Nobody gives a rat's about anything the usurper buffoons say. It's a failed state.

I had posted a photo from Suvarnabhumi check-in in another thread.

Numerous baggage carts with piles taller than man of big 3M cartons.

Must be many thousands of masks on one flight only.

They are hording down-and-dirty.
