BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has reported that 25 new cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in Thailand. Nine patients have been cleared of infection and discharged, leaving 16 in local hospitals. Most patients have shown signs of improvement, as they wait for laboratory results. The ministry insisted that the patients can safely return home after they are given a clean bill of health. Meanwhile, officials continue to screen and monitor passengers and tourists in Bangkok’s airports and other public transport systems.

The Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Pol Lt Gen Sophon Phisutthiwong, and executives of the Medical Service Department and the Bangkok Sanitation Department have held a meeting to prepare emergency medical operations. Five of the 25 infected patients from China are being treated in Bangkok hospitals. In addition to forming 71 teams, comprising personnel from the Department of Disease Control, to screen and check tourists suspected of having coronavirus infection, a quarantine facility has been set up at Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital in Bangkok.

"We’ve been prepared since the beginning concerning venues to treat the patients. We have a negative-pressure room, as mentioned earlier. We have a room for modification and a ’co hos’ ward. The areas have been prepared. Today, we have a special area called ’hos pit’. It’s a place where we quarantine the patients. It’s isolated. No one can enter the place. It’s at Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital. Another venue is a building consisting of eight houses. It can accommodate 32 people. If necessary, the infected patients can stay here. Preparations have been made."
