Birds Of Prey Grounded At The US Box Office

By James White

Though it was greeted with plenty of critical praise, Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) proved to be a disappointment at the US box office this weekend. Though it opened at the top of the charts, its $33.3 million start was well below expectations and represents the worst kickoff for a DECU movie.

It's a result that is unlikely to put a grin on either Harley Quinn's face or the accountants at Warner Bros., the studio's hopes for a new franchise endangered if not dashed. Internationally, the film has made $81.2 million.

Correct - and it’s not just male chauvinists like me. Even women aren’t liking these movies.

I Only recently just watched “Suicide squad” as I think Margot Robbie is hot. But the movie itself was Pretty average and the one liners her character had weren’t funny or witty and the overall writing was very poor.

there are some great tv shows with strong female / lgbt etc characters that promote these “woke” ideals without resorting to in your face rubbish.

If the trailer doesn't make one want to spend the money, the movie is probably doomed. There was zero about the trailer that made me want to see it- just more kick ass women behaving badly- seen it all before.

It's like those movies with Rebel somebody- the plump blond woman that thinks she's funny; best avoided.

In the 80s they made China Beach. A tv series with several "strong" female characters. Brilliant, and they didn't kick any guys ass. Several other series made then and earlier with great female characters. Seems modern producers didn't learn the lesson.

Blinded by PC. That's why they put so many females in films just to put females in a movie, even though the actual character would not have been female. Pity they don't make more movies that require actresses, instead of hijacking movies they think will be popular, It's like making a Bond film with a female Bond- luckily they realised so few would go to see it they have given that idea up, though their stated intention to put more "strong" female characters in the movies will ensure, IMO, that they will suffer the same fate as Birds of Prey.

Rebel Wilson. Cannot stand her.

My idea of a movie has fast cars, lots of explosions, locker room humour, boobs in bikinis and real men waving American flags as they put the boots to some guy in a turban who is about to destroy the world.

I dont want to see sensitivity, emotional neediness, girl buddiness, feminism or be lectured as to why I suck because I was born a white Yank.

I went to one movie in 2019...scratch that, two: John Wick and Halle Berry using cool dogs to rip up bad guys and Aquaman, becasue some Thai chick wanted to see it.
