rooster59 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Treat us like something between a telco and a newspaper, says Facebook's Zuckerberg Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg attends the annual Munich Security Conference in Germany, February 15, 2020. REUTERS/Andreas Gebert MUNICH (Reuters) - Online content should be regulated with a system somewhere between the existing rules used for the telecoms and media industries, Facebook <FB.O> CEO Mark Zuckerberg told global leaders and security chiefs on Saturday. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Zuckerberg said Facebook had improved its work countering online election interference, and expanded on his previous calls for regulation of social media firms. "I do think that there should be regulation on harmful content ... there's a question about which framework you use for this," Zuckerberg said during a question and answer session. "Right now there are two frameworks that I think people have for existing industries - there's like newspapers and existing media, and then there's the telco-type model, which is 'the data just flows through you', but you're not going to hold a telco responsible if someone says something harmful on a phone line." "I actually think where we should be is somewhere in between," he said. Facebook and social media giants including Twitter <TWTR.N> and Alphabet's Google <GOOGL.O> have come under increasing pressure to better combat governments and political groups using their platforms to spread false and misleading information. Zuckerberg said he now employed 35,000 people to review online content and implement security measures. Those teams and Facebook's automated technology currently suspend more than 1 million fake accounts each day, he said, adding that "the vast majority are detected within minutes of signing up." "Our budget is bigger today than the whole revenue of the company when we went public in 2012, when we had a billion users," he said. "I'm proud of the results but we will definitely have to stay vigilant." Popular Post gk10002000 Posted February 16, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 16, 2020 So says the information stealing, hidden features, guy on the planet. Nothing fumes me more than some business that only puts or hosts their website on Facebook. So in order to do business or learn about company x, you are now manipulated or induced to join facebook, thereby opening the door to your stuff, sites, information, and so much more. I do not use facebook and will resist doing so until I absolutely have to use it for some website or information that I absolutely need. I did create a facebook account just to read some posts and pictures and things that one of my friends was posting. Then for some I forgot my password and can't get back in. The questions facebook asks to recover the account don't seem to work or I have forgotten the proper answers. They have no "Help" operators to speak to, and no email address for support that I can find. All they have are hyper links that just go round and round with no new information or help or support. so I knowingly would never give facebook any money for anything, but of course just like a drug dealer that gives away free drugs in the hope of creating more customers that will later pay, facebook, and youtube are no doubt going that way. Look at youtube.. You have to pay to get rid of all those videos and ads they now insert into posted videos. And pretty soon I think free email services such as hotmail or gmail will start blocking usage features unless you start paying. Now I would not mind paying for something I need or use, but I fear they are going to hold us hostage, Even my youtube account that I would log in for years now doesn't work because the robot response says "can not verify your account".. even after I get to the recover process, respond with a code they send to my email etc. And this happens anytime I log in from a different device or location. They do not seem to understand that WWW. stands for world wide web 3

I can understand why a business might tie in with Facebook, ease of maintenance, exposure or whatever, but that does not mean I like it. Facebook is out to make money and the information age is upon us. This atavist will keep resisting 1

The reality is even worst than most people imagine. Zuckerberg is one of a new breed of billionaire "surveillance capitalists" with unprecedented influence over every aspect of our lives. The ability of these social media giants to monitor and ultimately control the behavior of entire populations makes them potentially more powerful than any government. And time to curb their imperialistic ambitions is rapidly running out. https://time.com/5602363/george-orwell-1984-anniversary-surveillance-capitalism/ 2
