Army chief General Apirat Kongsompong revealed today (February 18) that he signed a transfer order to move colonel-ranked officers, especially those under the Second Army Area.

The Army chief had on February 11 pledged reforms after a soldier, disgruntled over a property deal with his commander, went on a shooting spree, killing 29 people in Nakhon Ratchasima.

“This transfer order must consider case by case which military officers are ready to solve problems,” Apirat said at Royal Thai Navy Headquarters.

“The Army will allow the private sector to operate a complaint centre to make sure that complaints from low-ranking officers will not be leaked. I confirm that I can identify which complaint is true or false.”

Apirat said he would appoint the Internal Security Operations Command to reveal details to the public on Wednesday (February 19) about the memorandum of understanding with the Treasury Department on 40 Army business welfare programmes.

In reply to a question referring to the issue of a lawyer advising relatives of sufferers to sue the Army, Apirat said the incident was a personal matter, not an Army order.

“Military officers must go to a military court if the problem occurs among officers, but they must go to a civil court if the issue involves military officers and citizens,” he added.

In all fairness, imagine the doors that would suddenly fly open if they were allowed to sue - and won. The police force would be bankrupt by the end of the year

This has been on my mind for a few days.

I would like to see where all this land ends up. Given this muppet's antecedents, I've got a pretty good idea whose ledgers will expand to accommodate these land assets, and I'd like to know if I'm right or not. Call me a cynic but I suspect one of Thailand's most wealthy is about to become even wealthier.

It's getting to be like someone setting up a desk and chair on Silom (or Sukhumvit), and the rest of us just file past and hand over all our money.

Make it simpler... and quicker. No less of a theft but there's a benefit to simplicity. BUT... take a leaf out of the Mussolini playbook and kill all the lawyers first, no point in going out of your way to look for trouble.

The other paper reports 100 houses still illegally occupied.

Not in that respect, whenever there is a problem , people do not get shot or arrested for arguing. Some times people attack cops and do not even get arrested. Try to attack , insult or argue with a cop back in the west and see what happens to you

I thought about this, could the army be sued over the Korat business? he was able to get his hands on military weapons that should not have been so easily accessible.
