No new Covid-19 infection found today, says DDC

The Department of Disease Control told the press that accumulated cases of Covid-19 in Thailand today (February 19) stayed at 35, the same as yesterday's.

“The number of confirmed infected patients currently under care stands at 18, while 17 have fully recovered and discharged,” said department director Dr Sopon Iamsirithaworn. “Thailand is among countries with highest percentage of infected persons who have fully recovered and returned home”.

Out of the 18 still in hospitals, Sophon said, two are in serious but stable condition. “Their fever has gone down but the patients remain under intensive care around the clock,” he added.

As of Wednesday (February 19), Thailand had 957 suspected cases with 100 still being monitored while 857 were discharged. Most of those discharged were diagnosed with seasonal flu and not the Covid-19 pneumonia.

“Of the 100, 45 per cent are Thais, 45 Chinese and 10 per cent from other countries,” he said, adding that: "most Thais under monitoring had made contact with tourists from high-risk areas”.

No ‘hidden’ virus cases in Thailand, official insists
National / NationThailand
Feb 19. 2020 --

Asked about a rumour that the Health Ministry might be “hiding” cases, since the virus has spread fast in Hong Kong and Singapore while remaining stable in Thailand, Sopon insisted that all the details being shared were true.

“We really have found no new infections recently, even though we’re screening more people.”

Wonder if this announcement has anything to do with what Phuket's medical office said.

Good for Thailand.

Meanwhile, like Singapore, South Korea got a "superspreader".

A woman infected.... 15 people in total (14 in a church, like in Singapore where 18 people were infected in a chuch as well) .

Meanwhile the horror show continues on the ship in Tokyo bay... 79 more cases... total 621...

3011 people on 3700 have been tested...

And basically... we know that there are many false negatives... So this "total" is meaningless.

They should test all the negative passengers... everyday. It's of course impossible.

So it's possible to assume... that there are much more than 621 cases.

And Japan confirmed 5 new cases today (among them a taxi driver.... who drove passenger from the ship).

Yes indeed, Thailand is lucky.

????

Must be the weather.

Like the mother of Napoleon Bonaparte said : "Pourvu que ça dure !"

(let's hope it will continue ! It = the victories, the titles and the great wealth that her son bring to the family )

God may rain down virulence on churchgoers in Singapore

but he truly loves Thailand.

The day is not over yet...

Maybe it is. Maybe there is the limited high-density living. Maybe it is the limited number of potential cases traveling around the country. Maybe it is something else.

While Bangkok seems like an odd case when looking around, maybe the Thais are just lucky. Or maybe it is a cover-up. The cases under investigation should eventually tell us something...

Maybe not looking hard enough and maybe not making testing available enough particularly for people with mild symptoms?

Just asking.

Given all the Chinese tourism that was here for weeks and months before the full revelations from China, these low numbers seem miraculous, if true. If.

Think you may find the number is set well in advance of a day being over, started, or even on next months calendar !

None found, but just how hard were they looking?

Earlier this month, British researchers published a study showing that temperature checks will fail to detect a coronavirus infection nearly half the time.

And what do Thais use for "screening"? That's right.

Thais usually go to a pharmacy before they go to a hospital. They are not getting tested.

No tests = no new cases

Can anyone explain these figures ?

Maybe the 872 that have obviously sought treatment all just suffering from a head cold

thats why 82 of them are in hospital....

That makes a mockery out of what they are saying.  On the law of averages that means some of the people in the 872 will be infected.  With an R0 of 2.8 could mean at least 40 more.

Here's one possible explanation: https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/file/guidelines/G_CPG_en.pdf

Quote

Positive for COVID-19 1) Patient is admitted in single isolation room or cohort ward (designated specifically for confirmed case of COVID-19 infection) with at least 1-meter distance between the beds

It's a positive, but not verified by two reference labs->not included in the official count, but included in the hospitalized stats. If we're to go by that, 82 cases with positive diagnosis from one lab (not necessarily a reference lab). Some of them may be in the official count, too.

That sort of number would put Thailand in line with the calculated risk it has:
