Long story short: During my 10 years in Thailand, the TM30 was never a thing (Worked in BKK; travelled around country a lot; stayed with family in Chumphon).

Now, I've come to Thailand again (30 day visa exempt) and unexpectedly have to stay longer, so I'll get the 60 day extension. However, I stayed at a hotel a week ago and have been at my family's home since then. Now that I have to do an extension, it seems that they might want a TM30 first. So a few questions:

1) If my mother-in-law goes to do the TM30, will she get fined for reporting me late?

2) Can she lie and say I arrived on the day that she goes to immigration? If so, will they check and notice that I haven't been registered since last week or will my hotel report still be valid (Do hotels do daily reports on their guests or do they just do one on arrival, in which case I can say I stayed at the hotel for a week.)

3) If we register to do the online reporting, will they notice any discrepancies in reporting dates?

Thanks in advance for any feedback/advice.

1. Yes

2. Immigration would go by the date of arrival at the residence shown on the TM30 form.  That day could be for the day before the report is done at immigration.

3. No

They normally do not cross check the date on the form to the online database.

You could of stayed longer at the hotel than when the report was done at check in or you could of stayed somewhere else after the hotel.

It does make me wonder why people get fined for late reporting then. Surely, they should just enter the date that suits them to not get fined?

Most people get fined for one never being done. Many that got fined had not done one since entering the country since their passport would have the arrival stamp in it.

Many people here are afraid of immigration and if asked something they tend to tell the truth.

Other people just don't know that they could get fined, put the correct date on the form, then to their surprise get fined and then have a look here on Thaivisa and might complain about the fine.
