NDWS warns of emergency drills with tsunami warning towers

The National Disaster Warning System warns people living in six provinces along the Andaman coastline of tsunami warning towers’ assessment.

Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office says all six provinces along the Andaman coastline have acknowledged the daily drill of the tsunami warning towers, starting today at 9:00 hours. The six provinces include Krabi, Phuket, Phang Nga, Ranong, Trang, and Satun.

The drill will check the readiness of audible alarms of tsunami warning towers, to ensure people and tourists could hear the alarm if tsunami occurs.

The National Disaster Warning System warns people not to panic as it is only a test on the audible alarms of the tsunami warning towers.

As for Phuket, it has informed chiefs of local administrative organizations to tell their residents about the emergency drill. In preparation for possible tsunami, the province has conducted emergency drills with tsunami warning system many times, and the results are satisfied.

The dress rehearsal of emergency drill with tsunami warning towers is scheduled on July.
