I had some American Airlines miles that were set to expire in about a month, so last month I booked award travel through AA on Japan Airlines to BKK.  I am set to leave on March 3 and return on March 8 (yes short trip).  I have traveled to Southeast Asia many times over the past 15 years and haven't run into anything like this.  For the past 4 days I have been going back and forth about this connecting flight in NRT/HND (Tokyo).  I'm not as much afraid of the virus, as I'm worried about travel through Japan, and bad disruptions.  Since I'm on an award ticket I can change my dates for no charge as long as there are still award seats available (which there is). I've turned here looking for advice from other travelers if I'm just being another paranoid American lol.  I was thinking about pushing my departure out a few days to maybe March 5 and return March 9 or 10 to see how the next few days unfold, any thoughts on this? Instead of sitting here going crazy, I figured I would turn to the Thailand pro's here for advice! I've been to Thailand around 20 times, my last was Jan 2019. I hardly consider myself a pro, so again to turn you guys!

Thanks for any insight and help on this!

There are no "pro" on this or any other website when it comes to this situation with the coronavirus, because nobody ever experienced such a situation.  Just 3 thoughts from me:

One: more and more countries issue travel restrictions to and from countries,  latest example the US for Iran, Italy and South Korea. Nobody knows whether Japan will be on a list, I.e. for travel to and from Thailand.

Two: changing your schedule for few days doesn't make any sense,  IF you want to reschedule,  then by few months

Three: finally,  be aware that on returning back home, you might be hit with a 14 day quarantine as you traveled through infected countries.  Can you afford that?

Ya I've been watching that, but as of now most of the flights are running to Japan.

My thinking was to see if Japan closes it's doors and I would know my answer for certain then. Essentially I can change for free if there is seats open for award travel, and cancellation would be 150$.  I agree though I thinking to delay maybe 2 months into May possibly.

There is a chance of that for sure, but as of yet I haven't been able to see any instances of that, but there certainly could be.

Thanks for your thoughts and insight! Much appreciated.
