Cash Not Credit Card in CNX?

“No wish to sound insulting, but maybe time to rethink the way you manage your Thai bank account.”

But actually you are.  You know nothing about how I manage my finances.  The heart of the questions I posted about was the safety and security of carrying large amounts of cash in CNX.  The feedback I got was it is perfectly fine to carry over 50,000 Baht in ones pocket.  This is great until the day comes the money is lost or stolen.  This would ruin my day but if appears to many on TVF who reside in CNX that this would be an irrelevant matter.  50,000 is about what i spend in a month in CNX.  Cash lost or stolen can rarely be replaced.  I also thought Cashless is the wave of the future in LOS?

  • So what is the problem? You withdraw the money and go to the dentist. Any idea how many Thais walk around with 1M baht cash in their purses? You will be fine. So many problems in the world but this wo

  • maybe they are not paying their taxes and CC leave paper trails.

  • It costs them extra to process credit cards, that's why they're reluctant. If you have a Thai bank account, you can offer to pay them via PromptPay.

The costs for selling via credit card are negiligable.

We only charge on credit cards for sales under 500bt, anything over is tbh nrither here nor there.

The 3% charge covers, the telephone line cost from your swipe machine and maybe 5bt. Then the bank, give you the visa machine and charge us 321bt a month, it was free up until 2yrs ago.

I understand its actually against Visa,Amex,Mastercard rules to ever charge customers for using these cards.

As  for dentists, your proceedure costing this amount will need lets say 4/5 visits just like the precedure for having a crown.

For sure they will charge you each visit, so i dont see the problem of having 10k in your pocket each time you go

Yes, it has been a rub for me, being told there will be a surcharge of using a credit card. Difference found over my 8 years here between different businesses. Guess I am spoiled in having experienced this being against credit card company rules (but perhaps that is a per country rule). Sticky wicket as my cards are from US banks and so are under US rules and then being told it does not apply here. Sorry also that Thailand banks do not offer credit cards, only secured debit cards.

As an American, I come from the land of street robberies and Grand Theft, carrying that much cash is something I am having a hard time accepting.  I do have a Thai Bank Account(do not keep that much in it) and my US ATM card has daily withdraw limits and I would need to make multiple withdraws for consecutive days in order to meet this amount.  Maybe it’s time for a new Dentist?

How many robberies have you heard about lately? If you want the discount put the 50k in your pocket and pay the man. How hard can it be?

Taking the OP at face value I fail to see where the problem is. No cc accepted under 20,000 baht. Procedure is costing 50,000 baht. Use the credit card.

Am I missing something obvious?

He gets a discount when paying cash, but is afraid of carrying 50k in his pocket from the bank or ATM to the dentist.

One’s actions are based upon life experience.  I grew up and worked in Los Angeles.  So carrying large amounts cash was always a no go.  I am not afraid to carry a large amount of cash in my wallet but based upon my life experience it is unwise.  I am not a citizen of this country and realize that my time here could end quickly. Then I would end up where i came from.  Of course ones perspective is based upon mostly on life experience.  This is my perspective and i wanted to get other’s perspective.

Also, my daily ATM withdraw limit is way below 50,000.  This is to combat potential cyber hack and fraud.  This has worked well for me because i have lived in 4 other countries in addition to the Land of Smiles and the USA.

I grew up in Los Angeles too.  LA is waaaay sketchier than any city in Thailand.  For a 5k savings on a 50k bill, I would find a way to pay cash.

Ok. I thought it was a whinge about credit card acceptance.
