Where was this OP ?

Just bought a bike from Foreigner in Chiang Rai.

Took paperwork to Chiang Mai DLT, used my pink ID card.

Now have book in my name - in Thai !!!

Was that in the same or different province?

I'm curious. If you buy a bike in one province but live in another, what is the exact procedure. Do you just take the signed off docs to your home province and have it re-registered in your name in your province and have new plates issued to you, or do you have to deal with the transport ministry in the seller's province first?

No you can do it all at your local Department of Land transportation..but it won't be done same day 2 or more trips required.

Thanks. Good to know as most used bikes I'm currently interested in are all out province for me.

Monday - down with the paperwork. All checked. given a ticket to have bike inspected

Wednesday - check serial numbers, lights, horn, etc. Given the new tax stamp, showing what the new plate would be, and told to come back

Friday - pick up green book. Have to wait 2 weeks for the physical plate. Turn in Chiang Rai plate and get Chiang Mai plate

You can have the green book changed into your name in the province where you bought it.

Then have plate changed and green book amended to show your resident province.

I have never bothered. Bought my HD on BKK plate in Chonburi. Lived all over. Never changed it.
