PATTAYA (Reuters) - After temperature checks for contestants and with a smaller crowd than last year because of coronavirus fears, Mexico's Valentina Fluchaire was crowned in Thailand as winner of what is billed as the world's biggest transgender pageant on Saturday.

Although Miss International Queen 2020 went ahead, unlike many events canceled around the world since the coronavirus outbreak emerged in China, the crowd was markedly smaller than in previous years, with many empty seats.

Organizers had advised anyone who felt unwell not to attend. To allay worries, the entire venue in the seaside resort city of Pattaya was disinfected the day before the event by staff in protective suits.

The contestants all had their temperatures taken with hand scanners before being allowed to go on stage in national costumes, swimsuits and glamorous evening gowns.

Fluchaire hailed her victory as a win for all trans-women in Latin America.

"This is for you, I made this for you," she said.

The second and third place went to contestants from Brazil and Thailand.

Thailand was the first country outside China to record an infection with the new coronavirus, but with only 50 cases recorded so far, it is no longer even in the 20 worst affected countries.

With the infection rate slowing in China too, the Chinese contestant hailed efforts to stop the spread of the virus there.

"I'm so proud of my country. It's like a lesson for everyone, for the earth, we can get through it," said the contestant, who gave her name just as Lacey to conceal her identity because of prejudice.

The annual pageant the pageant was in its 15th year. Thailand has built a reputation as a place with a relaxed attitude toward gender and sexual diversity since homosexuality was decriminalized there in 1956.

But activists say LGBT+ people face discrimination and stigma in schools, the workplace and health facilities, and are often rejected by their families.

They can't even be number 1 in what they should excel in simply because "she" couldn't answer a question.

Not even a hub of transgenders.

There no such thing as a transgender Queen. It's Either Male or Female. One either got Them or Not.????

F'ing A. They're f'ing gorgeous. If I met them on the street, I think I'd have no clue they are transgender individuals. I'd definately date them

Spy network!

I've never seen the actual pageant, but the nightly show they do is pretty entertaining.

Ahhhh, following the US model

If you don't look, you won't see

If you don't see,

There's nothing there.

Yes the US has also so far also done limited testing but for a mix of reasons including the initially designed tests were defective.

There are some things we can know by now though.

If the virus has already arrived in a country then

More testing means more known cases.

But also some good news.

More testing even of people mildly ill will reveal a lower mortality rate.

South Korea has done very extensive testing and they're showing a mortality rate of about half of one percent. That's much higher than seasonal flu but much lower than the scary numbers like 5 percent.

However if you're 80 with chronic lung disease then of course the personal risk is very high.

.5 percent or 1 percent may not sound that horrible but if over half the world is infected by this and it's very very infectious, do the math, that's a disaster. Yes some credible experts are suggesting such a massive infection rate is possible or even probable.

So everyone should be taking this seriously. It can probably be at least slowed down for the first year or so before there is a vaccine.

Hotter than 95% real women 555

The Thai contestant  was nicely made up. I was going to say pretty, until I checked out some other photos. It's basically a super skinny guy with some breast implants and a lot of makeup. Unfortunately, the boy legs give it away.  When we get naked, we don't always have the same sex appeal. I sure don't ????  That being said The Thai contestant  did rather well for a TG.
