Hi, my wife was born in Thailand but she has lived many years with me in the UK and her Thai passport expired a while ago ; she did not bother renewing it yet but due to corona situation we are thinking it might be better to go there before it gets bad here in the UK and we can still travel.  We just feel with the hot weather flu is less likely to strive (that's what many EU governments hope also). I guess if we decide to go we'd need to go in the next couple of weeks before it gets bad here so my question was : given the urgency what is the best solution for us? can we travel over there on 30 day visa with UK passport and then try to extend our visa for 90 days or more?

Any help would be much appreciated.. .a bit stressed at present! many thanks in advance and our best wishes

Your Wife is Thai and can enter with her expired passport.

You will get 30 days on entry which can be extended by 30 days at Immigration.

Maybe 60 days to visit your Wife. That would depend on what documentation she has.

get a non imm  'O' visa for yourself from a consulate in the UK, Hull, liverpool or cardif  or glasgow, this will cover you for 90 days and a 60 day extension 1,900 baht is easy to get once in Thailand, if longer is required then a multi entry 'O' visa from savannakhet is easy to obtain no financials required, overnight stay required. your wife has been covered by fishtank

Does your wife know that she can apply for a new Thai passport at the Thai embassy in the UK? It is not necessary for her to travel to Thailand for that.

However, if she anyway wants to go to Thailand for another reason, she can enter Thailand with her expired Thai passport. On departure from the UK, she should show UK immigration the passport with which she last entered the UK.
