DMK: 45 minutes extra commute time. Save about $15 on one way ticket

BKK: shorter commute from Pattaya

This is an outbound flight and my return route isn't bundled, so immigration isn't a concern, only the hassle factor. Is BKK any more hassle from the point you reach the airport to the waiting area before you board?

If not, I think I will prefer flying out of Bangkok. We have a bus here that goes directly to the BKK terminal, so it will actually be cheaper (and you can buy the ticket in advance so no mandatory wait at the bus station)

Also can be carrier dependent due to varying check-in options, especially with the LCC's out of DMK.

Big difference too if you have checked baggage versus carry-on only.

If it was my choice, it would be BKK.

Have you had a look at what's available ex- UTP (U-Tapao)?

Utapao doesn't have many international routes. I'm looking at Phnom Penh and they don't even have a flight there.

You didn't mention you specifically wanted to go there.

DMK then.

Can you give your reason for prefering DMK to Phnom Penh?

The reason would normally be flight out of DMK via maybe AirAsia would always be MUCH cheaper. In your OP you state you have flight out of BKK airport. $15 cheaper.

Which airline? I have never seen that. If you can buy that DO IT.

Your travelling on big bus from Pattaya. 120baht to BKK airport. What is this thread about.

Have you checked the schedules from BKK and DMK?

There is limited choice when going by bus from Pattaya.

There are 2 bus routes I know of, starting from Pattaya and heading to DMK:

1. BKK airport bus > transfer bus to DMK

2. BKK bus to Ekamai station. BTS Ekamai to BTS Mochit. A1 bus to DMK

Adds to the length and stress of the trip hence probably not worth the $15 savings to me anymore. But for someone doing it the first time, it's not horrendous or anything, just adds 60 to 90 minutes to commute time

Security and immigration used to be on average much faster at DMK than BKK but at the moment they are equally quiet. If there is no need for actual check-in at the counter I would choose BKK.
