All visitors to Thailand require medical certificate, insurance and monitoring system

BANGKOK(NNT)-The government has announced that citizens of and those arriving from South Korea, Italy, Iran, as well as China and two of its territories Macau and Hong Kong, are to experience the kingdom’s most stringent screening.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam announced that the government has stepped up its measures to screen all incoming passengers, while placing major emphasis on those arriving from the listed high-risk nations.

The new measure requires all nationalities arriving in the kingdom to show a medical certificate, issued no more than three days prior to their arrival, have purchased an insurance plan for COVID-19 and giving consent to allow authorities to install a monitoring application on their smart phone.

Earlier, the kingdom temporarily revoked visa free entry for ‘high-risk’ countries, namely South Korea, Italy and Hong Kong, as well as canceling eligibility for visa-on-arrival of another 18 countries. Those needing to visit the kingdom during this time will require a visa issued by a Thai Embassy abroad.

“ The new measure requires all nationalities arriving in the kingdom to show a medical certificate, issued no more than three days prior to their arrival, have purchased an insurance plan for COVID-19 and giving consent to allow authorities to install a monitoring application on their smart phone. “

What will be the procedure if any of these “ all nationalities “ haven’t complied ??

?

I don't see any change on the Ministry of Public Health website from the announcement they made two days ago.

It still says that only those people coming from Disease Infected Zones  need a certificate and health insurance. Passengers from other countries still don't need these things, at least according to the MoPH site.

which the visitor then deletes the instant that they step outside the airport?!?

"Consent to keep the phone functioning as identified at the airport, and to allow the app to remain in place," is a much different English sentence.

I trust all of those countries affected  will apply the same restrictions to Thai travelers.

assuming said phone has roaming and visitor is prepared to pay for it

or can use free sim

assuming phone is unlocked

AND trusting visitor doesn't just leave phone at residence while they break quarantine

as usual good idea, pisspoor implementation

Do you have a link to that? Smart traveller site doesn't say that at all. They do recommend returning soon if you choose to as commercial options (flights etc) may be harder to get soon, but there is no mention of shutting any border.

don't forget Spain!

BREAKING: Spain reports 1,236 new cases of coronavirus and 149 new deaths in morning update, raising total to 11,178 cases and 491 dead

Many have banned Thai citizens outright - this includes Israel, Bahrain and Qatar. Malaysia has banned everyone for 2 weeks.

Actually, Thailand should just ban everyone for 2 weeks too, to get this over and done with. Every day there is a new, more stringent requirement being announced.

This just keeps getting better and better. What's next, all visitors to Thailand will be quarantined for 2 weeks at a military facility?

no the best we can hope for is total economic collapse followed by a huge war.

I couldn't find any other source for what is written in the OP.

Is this news even correct?

Do you doubt, even for a millisecond that this option has been discussed? A good question would be "under what circumstances?"

You have to cross check between what's in the news, your government's advice and IATA's country database. Requirements are changing daily. What's true today may not be the case anymore tomorrow.

Hrmmm.

Is that so outlandish? Stranger things have happened.

Which one...the compulsory quarantine, or the closing of borders altogether? I'm sure the latter is imminent, while the former remains a distinct possibility.
