Because it is Smart..........

Spotted this one yesterday in a gas station just outside Udon, on the road up to Non Kai. Has a weird contraption (possible camera) on roof behind the light bar.

What are they gonna do with the overstaying foreigners after they've caught them?

It's not as if they can put them on a flight home anymore.

Sounds like instead of Que number 500 at CW Immigration you will be Que number 500 at IDC.....

How does this smart car operate ?

The Chinese , Burmese and Laotians would be indistinguishable from the local population ., so, how did the smart car know they were overstaying ?

Oh I suspect that someone in space HQ checks through through the paperwork until they find an over-stayer, and then texts their address to the smart-car crew. they then go and park outside. Pretty smart eh?

Still, if you have got to drive all the way up to the frozen north to nick an over-stayer or two, might at least do it in a comfy car!

They must be racking up some mileage - in due course the engine management lights and timing belt warning lights will come on, and that will be that!

That is one of the Immigration Dept. cars and that is the facial recognition camera on the roof.

I see them creeping around in Songkhla a lot when I am down there.

Very sinister having those driving around looking for illegal foreigners, especially at the moment with everything that's going on.

That being said, they do serve as a clear indication that we are anything but just tolerated here.

Now is possibly the worst time to conduct this stunt.

If the worst came to the worst and there are no more flights out and the borders stay closed indefinitely, the Thai government should extend permanent residency or even citizenship to all foreigners inside the country.

Don't worry, the contraption on the roof is benign. It's just a GT200 looking to locate any stray bombs and golf balls.

So far the contraption on the roof has gotten about 100 cases (since purchase) making them much more better bomb detectors than the ones you refer to x)

Because its smart silly! ????

If these cars are so "smart", why don't they deploy them to sniff out Covid-19 carriers rather than overstayers?

because even with internet connection and facial recognition you can`t get even a false positive for a virus - well except it`s a computer virus
