Popular Post Tingtong2mut
Had a few discussions with family and people back home last few days and absolutely appalled at the level of hate around, particularly directed towards China and Asians in general. Even from people who would normally be the first to pull you up on racist remarks etc. Dirty Asian markets, eating bats and dogs etc. People seem to forget many or most in the poorer parts of Asia don't have money or have a choice. I am no humanitarian and have been guilty of racism myself before but it's just crazy these people sitting in their comfortable homes, Uber eats, supermarkets and well stocked fridges an arms length away judging others. Video calling with a friends wife yesterday, sitting on the balcony of a holiday apartment stuffing her face with crisps and snacks as she was extolling her views. Even heard it from a friend before, who lives in a village here, as I have done where they eat rats, snakes, bugs etc, and have done for many hundreds of years. I have never heard them complain about it either by the way. generally a happy go luck lot. He was defending Trumps "Chinese Virus" comments, which in itself I think is deplorable and irresponsible. It seems to be common knowledge.... or so we are told that it started in Wuhan Province but do they really know this for sure? If so How come Iran and Italy are so hard hit. I am sure the people in China and other parts of the world have been told their versions. I don't pretend to know and I know people are frustrated but it seems like everyone is looking for someone to blame and take out their frustrations. If it did come from China and from bats in a wet market, does that means it's China's fault? What about pig flu? Maybe it has more to do with more than a billion people living in one country, many in abject poverty. And if anyone thinks China is a wealthy, first world country guess again. I have seen a lot more poverty and worse living conditions than in SE Asia. Very small % of the population wealthy and educated and living in the major cities. I don't think we have evolved nearly half as much as we think we have. It's amazing how fast humans revert back to type, now more so than ever under the slightest of pressure / inconvenience. Absolutely ashamed to be associated with such selfish ignorant people 8 2

Popular Post Orton Rd
Pointing the finger at the source does not have to be hateful, facts are facts. This mess started in CHINA in WUHAN sourced from highly unhygienic markets and eating habits of the CHINESE, unless you believe in the mad conspiracy theories including the bio lab. How many countries in the world have dog restaurants, even though they deny it as they now laughingly deny it started with them and claim the virus was from the USA or Italy. Nothing to do with hate, just facts, here is another one - the CCP are liars. Edited March 21, 2020 by Orton Rd 17 2 5
Popular Post GeorgeCross
bats were a delicacy - poor people were not eating them!! anyways i heard the PC brigade was busy trying to get the Spanish Flu renamed - apparently it was messing with their anti-orange man agenda nothing better to do - as my mother would say 5 2
Popular Post Swimfan
I’m not seeing it coming from people I know as racism. Their concerns are valid though. After SARS China had a responsibility to stamp out these practices and actually Outlawed them but became lax about enforcement. China is by no means a poor country it has massive wealth. How they distribute that wealth is the issue. The general consensus I’m getting is that the people will be expecting their respective governments to hold China to account for this pandemic. It’s not about race. 6
Popular Post Lacessit
Greed is to blame. The Chinese obsession with conspicuous consumption of exotic food. The Japanese obsession with whale meat that they don't really need, and have never traditionally hunted. Look around, and almost every country in the world does something that screws everyone else. Australia sells coal which raises the temperature of the oceans when burnt for energy, when it is the best place on the planet for solar power. Brazil burns the lungs of the planet in the Amazon Basin. I don't blame the Chinese per se, I blame human greed. Started in Wuhan in Hubei province, so maybe Trump could better say WuHuFlu? Fact is we need to get over the PC <deleted>. One hundred years ago we had Spanish Flu that killed millions. German measles has been around for over 200 years named after the Germans who prescribed the disease rubella. The Chinese have been less than transparent with this virus and allowing access to other medical experts. No wonder people are pi$$ed off. The exotic creatures on Chinese menus and markets are usually bought by more well off citizens who think the consumption of such will give them health and wealth. I hope the anger you mention is aimed at the Chinese Communist Party and its dictator leader Xi Jinping. The average Chinese citizen is not to blame. 5
Popular Post Tingtong2mut
All of these comments are based on what we see through our western eyes and western beliefs. I have travelled through the very poor areas of rural southern China and was taken to what our host said was what we'd call a delicatessen, but what we would see as a pet shop. There were bats on sticks, lizards on stick, dried hung dogs. They weren't delicacy items and who's to say this food is exotic? The homes I saw in this particular area had 3 walls and a sheet of tin on top. Exotic to who? Because it is different to what we eat doesn't mean it is wrong. It is available. I have seen people shooting at flocks of bats that fly overhead with home made shotguns. They were hardly a delicacy or exotic. They were an opportunity to get some protein from an available source. I assume some of you live, or have been to rural Thailand and seen that it is very common for people to eat rats, frogs, snakes and bugs. And a few areas eat dogs. So what? If you had been to these areas you would also realise they don't have a lot of choice. Go and tell them they are wrong? Or do rats, and snakes fit into the "ok" list. All of the comments re the Chinese being less than transparent are what we have been fed from Western media. The Chinese are naturally wary and suspicious of the west and not surprising given the historic treatment of their race. No one hear can put their hand on their heart and say they know for a fact any of this is true. In any case I don't think we in the west are in any position to judge other countries. We in the west have done atrocious inhumane things in the name of "democracy", killed or sponsored the killing of millions of people, and let me tell you our governments aren't making a very good go of it at the moment, nor have they for many years. And what qualifies as a clean market? I walk through a market near home where they butcher live pigs. Blood streaming down the floor, no refrigeration. They just don't have the where with all or finances to conform to western standards, and I must say I have never been sick here. I only know what I know and I know little apart from what I have seen first hand. This is what I believe. I do strongly object though to someone sitting in the western world judging what poor people are eating. I thought the majority of people had gotten past that sort of ignorance long ago. Ask yourself honestly what sort of society we have created and if we are really in a position to look down on other cultures. Seriously what would happen if the internet was out for a day, a week. There would be people killing each other on the street. The world would be thrown into absolute chaos. Remember Y2K? We are a lot more dependent on this stuff now. Thats what we have created for ourselves and thats what we are enslavened too. And I am as guilty as anyone. But I think a great time for us all to step back and have a look at our priorities and where we are going. Maybe a great wake up call for the world 4 4 1

It is all rhetorical. Daily updates on what? Bat consumption? I don't pretend to know much about politics, or governments or who's right or who's wrong. I do know that this world is survival of the strong and sometimes governments have to take what we would think shocking steps to stay on top. I am not a leftist and enjoy my western lifestyle. Far be it from me too try and tell others how they should lie or what they should eat. And Trump...never had much of an opinion on him...but to see his chicken lips this morning on the news repeating....the "Chinese virus", drawing out every syllable I thought was disgusting and dangerous. Your comment about Chinese food, or what we in the west call Chinese food (Real Chinese food is nothing like that) ...yes I love it. I don't have a problem of calling a spade a spade, and even if it came from China doesn't make it the Chinese flu does it? It was more the purposeful and derogatory way he said it. They reckoned HIV came from Africa, sexy monkeys etc. I don't remember anyone calling that the African virus? What I object to most are people sitting in the comfort of their homes judging what other people are doing when essentially they are trying to survive the best they can. This woman was actually stuffing her face with potato crisps, some falling out of her botoxed mouth as she was talking about "disgusting Asians". It would have actually made a great comedy / parody sketch. The rest me rambling perhaps. I have heard these hateful remarks from about 4 or 5 people back home and many on here, everyone looking for somewhere to point the finger. One thing I do know for sure. The meek shall inherit the earth may well and truly come to bare. The people who are going to suffer the most are the wealthy and in turn will have the most to lose. Those with nothing will carry on and survive as they always have. 3 1
Popular Post nausea
So I'm not allowed to have my own cultural preferences now? The Chinese and Japanese can do what the hell they like in their own countries, just don't export it to me. Of course, the epitome of this is the Mohammedans, But I'm not going to even go there. My Thai SO hates the Chinese, incidentally. One reason we're together, our cutural preferences coincide. 3
