The most annoying thing in all this mess is all the xenophobic sh*t coming out from so many people it is just disgusting. 

So many in this forum (rightfully) reject the racist comments from an incompetent health official in Thailand, yet see nothing wrong about posting derogatory comments about the Chinese themselves just a sentence later. 

 

It is not the Chinese who brought this on us, but disrespect of nature and wildlife trade and that is a human problem, not one of nationality. The same could have happened in Laos, India, Myanmar etc etc ... or Thailand for that matter. 

The same could happen again any day in fact. Even today in Bangkok’s JJ market you can still see protected animals kept in horrible conditions, stressed, injured and traded in close vicinity to each other. Perfect conditions for possible crossovers. 

Demand from Asia, but also from many in the so-called better developed countries keeps this trade running. 

 

Kindly remind yourself and all of us of the best humanity is capable of, show solidarity, help those most vulnerable. We are all in this together like it or not. Perhaps when we get through this we can reconnect with nature and reverse the destruction we cause.

in the event real treatment is required, they are passed on to specialists, and pay as they go.  some carry private insurance, others rely on the government programs. 

 

the system works for 1.45 billion people, but the quality is not the best.  they can handle the normal load, but what we saw in wuhan was utter chaos.  the system simply broke down.  not enough of everything.

 

 

if you're interested in how it looks at the other end of the crisis, hainan island has just been declared a low-risk zone. 

 

after the initial spike (total 168 cases), the province went into modified lockdown.  modified meaning not as strict as wuhan.  we had 6 deaths, only 1 remaining in hospital.  no new cases in over a month.

 

as of today, the cellphone health QR-scan code is no longer required to access public facilities.  most businesses in the city center have reopened, bus services are operating (except to the mainland).  public middle and high school will open in two weeks.

 

still have 14-day quarantine for international arrivals at the airport, as well as for mainlanders arriving by ferry.

How do they even know the number of infected unless they test everyone. The more they test the greater the numbers. Answer test no one, problem sorted.

Boy I sure am glad he knows what he's doing, The consensus / feedback from family and friends in LOS is that the Thai people are very angry, maybe the enlightened ones advice to go to the temples will fix that.

I doubt I am wrong when I say that the number of global Covid-19 fatalities solely due to the virus is tiny compared to those that have succumbed to a pre-existing health condition or immunodeficiency that was only exacerbated by the virus.

You're right (exept for the xenophobia bit. Animal trade; yes.)but the fact is China knew about this in December, gaged people, covered it up and let people spread it to the world rather than closing it's borders, telling the world so countries could prepare and allowing access the international experts. We would not be in the <deleted> we are now in and 1000's of lives could've been saved if they had.

Not defending China‘s regime nor the attempted cover-up at the beginning. You can rightfully attack all that, but it still is no excuse for Xenophobia. 

 

i also wonder how long it took before there was real understanding of the issue. Would you be confident the reaction and any drastic measures to stop the spread earlier would have been much different had it started in another country?

Yes, I am confident of that. It may not have started son enough but any head start would have been a bonus. It doesn't take much searching on the net to see the aqmount of experts who have said this and arte still saying it. Not in Thailand though. Here they are still doing everything wrong and way too late.

Well, there are those who would say that in doing this, China only did what Thailand and many other countries did or would have done had they not been to quickly overwhelmed.

 

And as always, give them a bit of bad luck, or a scenario which a simple-at-heart and eager-to-please soldier cannot manage, and watch the cockroaches run for cover. It's what we've been seeing for weeks...

Thailand can not afford to lockdown. European countries and the US can do it for a short time but no country in the world can afford to prop up the whole country's economy.  Lockdown may slow down the Coronavirus but it kills more businesses than the virus. S.Korea did not have to lockdown to deal with the Coronavirus.

The world recession is coming.

You are right of course that any head start would have been beneficial. In countries with a free press there would have at least been info and pressure for action from earlier on. Whether authorities would have made the tough decisions there any sooner i am not so confident about. As for Thailand, well, i agree with you about the wrong and late actions, we see what confidence we can have here.

But back to the point of my original post, no matter what, there is no excuse for xenophobia, i blame the root cause that led to this issue, the political systems and lack of free press, but not ‘The Chinese’, or ‘The Thai people’ or else.
