I wonder what i can do to have the best VOIP phone, ip telephone or skype connection ,

making GOOD quality calls to Europe?

Is Ip phone ( with a samall box) better than skype?

Wich company offers the best, fastest here?

OR.... :o What is the cheapest you can call to Europe on regular phone line?

The main issue is how good a connection you can get between yourself and the other person. Over a good connection Skype is far better than my office landline.

From personal experience, if you have a good internet connection (NO internet in Thailand qualifies as good), then you get brilliant voice calls with either an external box (i.e. Vonage), or Skype.

As the Internet quality drops, Skype doesn't seem to suffer as much, but does need a relatively fast PC. (i.e. my brother had problems with his laptop because it's getting on a bit). Anything bought in the last 4 years wouldn't be a problem - but something older might have issues.

I use both Vonage and Skype in Thailand, and Skype has far better voice quality with Thailand's crappy internet.

In February I was studying Thai at Pink Chilli Language School in Bangkok. Since being back in the US I have continued with them using Skype and a webcam. I use my laptop (IBM T43). The quality is generally fine. It's like being across the desk from the teacher.

One great feature with Skype is that while the teacher and I are talking, she can type (in English and/or Thai) and it shows up on my screen in a separate window. This is great for vocabulary words and reading practice. As cited above, a broadband connection is necessary on both sides.

I'm in the us

on a cable modem

I'm using a 4 yr computer with a celeron processor .. that may be why my call quality was less than others are reporting.

i use vonage .. my vonage modem died ..

i used skype to talk to vonage support

FOR ME ,, skype's quality was not even close to vonage.

skype works .. you can communicate

skype is unbelievably cheap .. i used for several days .. one call to vonage was over an hour & my total cost for 2 weeks was less than us$2.

skype's quality (for me) was like a bad cell phone connection w/ breaks up & poor voice quality

.. but 100% usable .. never dropped call ..

but complaints especially when leaving voice mail.

talked to the Philippines & Argentina w/o problem .. much much cheaper than vonage for over seas.

some of skype's features like auto dialing any phone # on a web page are quite good.

there have been threads here 'bouts that vonage works in LOS.

I have Lingo, skype, and packet 8.. websites are lingo.com skype.com and packet8.com Skype is by far the worst... I am on TT&T MaxNet in Chiang Mai with a 512 down and a 256 up. Packet8 is the best.. most of the times clear as if I was talking on a land line. Lingo sounds a bit Tinny but thats what I hear... the person I am calling cant see the difference between the two.. Lingo is good to USA, England, Germany and most of western Europe for one price monthly unlimited calling... IF you go with lingo.. use me as a referal and I get one month free and so do you... same with packet8... Skype.. Not impressed with... choppy and it dies every so often. skype to skype though is the best... meaning if you call someone that HAS skype and not a land line the quality is the best I have EVER heard.

Packet 8 wins for quality of sound... Lingo wins for all the features they have plus they do all of western Europe for free as well. You can even have a local number from Germany, England or France..

Message me here if you want my account name if you choose to sign up as I will get a free month and you will get an extra free month on top of the free month you get already.

You will have to get someone to ship to Thailand for you... as they dont ship their modem overseas... plus you will have to have a valid credit card that can be charged to a USA company.
