My wife and I (both English) visited Hua Hin IO last week and were told to get the 30 day extension we needed the letter from the British Embassy. We now have that letter and visited the IO today. The hoops that you have to jump through to get this extension are incredible. Instruction form being handed out is below. They are clearly making this up as they go along as the map requirement was added by hand as we waited there. They also want a print out of the email received from the Embassy.

We rent a house and the owner lives in Switzerland so despite having a rental agreement we cannot meet the other requirements re: ID & house book.

There appears to be no recognition that this is a worldwide crisis affecting millions of people, all the Immigration Officer repeated was “ must have all forms to send to Head Office”, sadly this is all too believable. After extensive stays for the past 10 years I doubt I’ll be back, Thailand’s tourist industry is killing itself. 

That is shocking but shows why Thailand is a nothing country on the world stage and even within Asia other Asians don't regard them as much.

Take your tons of paperwork to the bank and see how much it is worth...before long that is all you will have left as evidence that foreigners once came and supported your economy...

 

 

The only plus point in all this rubbish is that they are not asking for proof of booked or cancelled flights as i'm sure I have read they are asking for in other threads

What more could they possibly ask them than that? If you have a contract and the owners ID etc then that it is all the proof they need

Well maybe we  did ( or did not ), and as Covid19 is a Global Pandemic, who really knows.

What we did bring to Thailand however, was jobs, and Industry, - and a lot of it.

These 2 sets of requirements (post#1 - HuaHin and post #5 - Trat) for foreigners affected by the CoVid-19 situation are SHOCKING!

I hope a TVF member with 'higher-up' connections can and will bring this to the attention of the highest thai authorities.  

But if it turns out that these are indeed the requirements cooked-up at the highest IO level to enforce on tourists who unwillingly are 'trapped' in the country, then I can only conclude it is a deliberate attempt to destroy Thailand's reputation as a tourist destination. 

No matter how many 'Amazing Thailand' tourist marketing campaigns that will be launched later will repair the damage done and the negative publicity by those that were treated in this appalling way.

That's also at the thai embassies in Europe....even when you check their website and bring all that's listed there they ALWAYS come up with something new so you can go home to get it..no matter how far away you live.

I've always said that..traveling around Asia meeting other Asians and telling them I live in Thailand...some of the remarks made are unprintable...definitely viewed as.....there was a German word they used for Russians in WW2

Sad to say I agree, but the principal motivator in the psychology of a Thai is ego. Way down in the porridge that passes for a brain in Thailand, is the awareness that they are a 3rd-world country. Thais know this, and they very much do not like it so an unhealthy proportion of their lives is spent in trying to establish psychological dominance over other people, mainly foreigners, and principally Europeans, anyone in fact who hails from the land which is not a 3rd-world country or whom they suspect of feeling that they are superior to Thais when everybody knows they couldn't possibly be.

So the exercise is not to collect data, the exercise is to oblige the foreigner to jump through hoops, in the process making themselves feel powerful and omnipotent. I've been in this position many times since I arrived in Thailand 16 years ago. Yes it's irritating, yes they should have progressed as people but appear not to have done and no, I don't believe there is an alternative to just sitting down and smiling. A Thai will always support another Thai if in a conflict situation with a foreigner. There will be no help coming from that quarter however ridiculous the situation.

As already noted, sad to say, but imho irrefutable. It gives me no pleasure whatever to say it, but I like many others have fallen victim to the ego games played by many Thais, and I see no alternative explanation

Malaysia the same as Philippines
no penalty for overstay during lockdown and 14 days to report to immigration for extension which brings it to June.

Thailand it appears only recognise this right for chinese tourists

& if memory serves right the first case of covid 19 was not registered in any dirty farang land.
