Fake Passports Car Rental Scam

Mr. Direk Chimchuen, owner of Direk Motor Car for Rent located near Uthit Court reported to the Pattaya Police on 10th April that a wanted man....

........(according to an arrest warrant issued from Pattaya Provincial Court and a photograph) came into his shop wanting to rent one of his cars.

Mr. Direk tried to stall the man and called his salesman to come and identify the man. However, it seemed the man noticed because he called a friend and fled in a pickup truck.

Mr. Direk followed the pickup and also called the police at the same time. Whilst driving he saw someone throw a number of passports and some documents out of the window so he stopped and picked them up as evidence.

About 20 minutes later the police were able to capture 4 men in the pickup truck; Raza, aged 24, Mahmood, aged 30, Mode, aged 32, and Pervez, aged 33 – all Pakistan nationals. At the moment an arrest warrant had already been issued for one of them.

These crooks would use fake passports to rent cars from car rental showrooms around Pattaya and then never return them. They stated that they then sell the cars in Bangkok. Many car rentals have already lost many cars to these crooks and they passed on photographs of one of the men to fellow car rental shops to be careful. Some of the victim vendors came to the station to point out the crooks for a positive identification.

All confessed their charges and further proceedings are ongoing. While proceeding according to the law, the police are announcing to car rental shops around Pattaya, Banglamung, and nearby areas if any more victims have been taken advantage of then more charges will be added to their list if they come forward to identify these men.
