Inane. Beyond inane. And very inconsistent policy from the hapless army. Why now, as the cases are starting to flatten out? The people are home, most are bored, what is the harm in granting the people a beer?

Its a good idea to ban alcohol sales in Thailand and I personally welcome it. ????

I say this because I have returned to Germany with my Thai family where the beer flows like water, costs about 10 THB per pint and is delivered to your door by the crate. ????

Here we will drink our way through the Coronavirus Crisis then sober up once it is over. ????‍♀️

After that we will return to Thailand where (because of the ban) there will be massive stockpiles of cheap beer available to celebrate our return.????

Exactly, my mom shop confirmed me today, i dont need to worry for my daily 4-6 big Chang are safed for the next days maybe next weeks. But only take away and drink at home. So nothing happened here in Bangkok. Dont worry, be happy and enjoy ur social distancing at home.

I am happy.

A good friend owns a Mom and Pop alcohol shop (no problems for refills), my wife runs a noodle stall and is about 30 metres away during the day, and at night we sit outside and drink at home or the next door neighbours, our 15 year old son is in his room most of the day, plus we live in rural Khampaeng Phet which is Covid-19 free at the moment.

I've become bored of beer recently, so I'll just use this as an opportunity to give it up for a while, we're all getting fatter now anyway...

"we're all getting fatter now anyway..."  Speak for yourself, I have lost 2 Ks since the lockdown.

Internet is full of excercise videos you can do at home.

It is not forbidden to ride your bike, not much better exercise than that.

When will this garbled mess of different provincial rules finally stop? I thought Thailand has a central government.

Whom or what does this nonsense any good except causing confusion...

Yes, every authority makes up their own rules. This is Thailand. The members of the "scared of your own shadow" brigade must be having a hard time of it these days. ????

Said on here previously that there will be food riots eventually with this lockdown and the money starts running out, I think my prediction will be wrong. there will be alcohol riots and then food riots - or maybe steal the food as an afterthought

Most long timers here have been through the rounds, the majority end up with Leo as their 'go to' beer.

Totally agree. LEO is the stand by beer for most longterm expats.

Time to head down to Makro before Prachuap implements a ban too

Too late...they pulled the plug already until the end of April & with no advance warning....that really sucks!  I also never knew that the Corona Virus liked alcohol; I've always understood it feared it?  ????

I understand how banning alcohol will  prevent  social  gatherings , BUT  when are they going to Ban street Markets from operating, because in East Pattaya  every Soi that has a market is working and is full of local people

They are running out of ideas to make all of this more miserable

I am running out of ideas as to why people like you seem to lack the most basic common sense. How old are you? 15? If you're so miserable leave and find a better place. We don't want to hear your juvenile whining. The rest of us whose common sense is intact and functioning can see that alcohol is a fuel and catalyst for social gathering,  and whether one thinks it extreme or not one cannot fault the government for doing everything it can to ratchet back the numbers no matter how small an effect. I am not quite that conservative, but DUH this is not my country and it is not my business to second guess the measures which Thailand opts to take. This is not some contentious bureaucratic or immigration red tape issue, it's the public health at stake. It's my choice as an adult as to whether to live here or not. As an adult. Not a whining child. The corona cases in the very small state Connecticut where I'm from the US are nearly 10,000. Thailand reports about 2,400 and is not growing in numbers nearly as fast as in the US. And even if you think Thailand is underreporting there is no doubt that Thailand is faring much better than much of the western world. So do try to post some intelligent, useful, mature comments once in a while, won't you?

Less alchohol during the Songkran period, with or without water fights will reduce socialising, and if it is only for 10 days, as in some places, not so bad. It's the danger of the ten days becoming another ten days, and then another that is worrying.

agree
