Popular Post GAZZPA
I don't like Thailand, I lived there and worked there for 6 years but now I have left with my family. I left for all the reasons that have been covered on Thai visa 1000 times before. However I have been wondering how Thailand and other countries are going to cope with this. No welfare to speak off, issues with buying food, evictions because you cant pay the rent and so forth. It seems like those issues are starting to appear. The lockdown will be irrelevant to some people as they do all they can to get cash for food, like this family in this report. I don't know how the Thai people are going to deal with this. If you are a person (Thai or Foreigner) with a decent amount of money coming in it will be no small thing for you to donate a little help these people. Dont know if there are any active organisations running some kind of foodbank but if there isn't its time to run one to help these people. It's a horrible situation I hope people do this before it is too late with people starving and crime rates souring. Good luck to you all, stayy safe, stick together and do your bit if you can. 8

I did spell the word incorrect but it wasn't suppose to be a joke. thanks anyway.

Isaan sailor
Upcountry, in many Isaan villages, families are whole again. Bangkok working parents have returned to their homes. Most live in isolation 14 days. I see them on my bike rides—on farms, foraging in the forest, and taking odd jobs around town.

I think there will be restriction on countries allowing people out, and many countries placing restrictions on where tourists can come from , needing certificates to be allowed to travel, and enter. Countries willalso require certifcates of health for people to re-enter or go into quarantine on return, making it more difficult. Anyone remember the days of having a vaccine book to travel and enter many countries?? Travel insurance will skyrocket, air fares will also be expensive as they will not be allowed to pack people into cattle class as close as before. Not sure how it will pan out, but i do agree that things will not suddenly switch back to how it was before with economy flights being packed out. It is going to be a very rough ride in Thailand with many people struggling to feed their families. The fact that many Thai people live for today and don't plan for tomorrow will only make it worse and more immediate. I hope the people who are there and are living on a steady safe income will have a heart and do their bit to help, if not in an organised consolidated way then at least by way of helping your neighbours who are struggling.

Agree. The only thing I would add is don't assume that there is help available for people. If you can do your bit in these times it is important that we all do so.
Popular Post Older and Wiser
If you believe some of the medical opinions, this virus is not going away. We may flatten the curve until a vaccine arrives, which they say is 18 months at least, unless some existing medicines are found to be effective. Even then, they say it may be with us into the future, it will mutate, any vaccine will have short term protection and need to be continously tweeked to stay ahead of the virus. Even if countries reduce the risks, they won't all come out together and say "well, it's over, let's just go back to normal". As long as the threat continues, one of the most dangerous things you can do will be to fly in planes with recirculated A/C and ventilation systems. I don't think the floodgates will open and people will be rushing to go on holiday. Also, contrary to what was said elsewhere, airfares may not suddenly increase as there is likely to be limited demand and fares may have to stay competitive to capture their share of the market of those willing to fly. However, on the other hand, I would also disagree that people will be wanting to pay back loans and save money first, not if we are talking about some Asians anyway. Before COVID-19 I was spending 25% of my time in Thailand and 75% in Philippines, but now quarantined in Philippines. From my experience, the last thing on their minds is to pay back borrowed money or save. As soon as you have money, they spend it and damn tomorrow. Do you really think they will learn their lesson and changes their habits, I don't think so. Like Thailand, the Philippines is giving food and money for the poor, but whether it reaches the poor is another matter, too often it goes to the officials in charge of distribution, their families and friends, not to those who need it.

And how will return home they are on lockdown too so they won’t be able to get flights out or back home. No one will be going anywhere in a hurry.

The Farang tourist that have been sitting at home in Europe? The airline companies losing millions with everyday being grounded? July/August people will come back. I believe this 100%. That would render the current lockdown completely pointless. Why would they just open up and rapidly ensure another lockdown is required? They can't effectively test on arrival, as there are too many logistical issues sending someone back home. Never mind the tests aren't 100%, and if one person on the flight was infected, safe to assume others on the plane got infected as well. Then anyone who comes here, will almost certainly have to quarantine when getting back home. That largely eliminates your two week tourist, as they won't have another 2 weeks to quarantine when they get home. The only way people are coming back in July, is if the lockdown is deemed impossible to maintain, and they're prepared to wear the human cost of infections climbing. Which fails by way of no longer being a 'safe' holiday destination. I see no easy way out of this.

fredwiggy
Might be a good time for the country's officials to appreciate the money we (expats) bring to their country. Tourism will certainly drop very low, and since many jobs are lost, I'm afraid, like in America, a lot might resort to crimes to eat. Many might return to farming, which is actually a good thing, seeing that Thailand leads the world in children being raised by grandparents, so their parents will be home instead of working in Bangkok or other big cities. This includes the smaller percentage that have to sell their bodies for money, something which isn't a good thing for your children to know is normal.(It isn't). 1

I'm sure tourism will return before 18-24 months, but I doubt it will be full scale until a vaccine is available. If a vaccine never comes, then I expect the world will be forced to just treat it like seasonal flu, consequences be damned, which could still remain a headwind for some time.

The rich survive. It's just making the poor even poorer, and sacrificing the poorest. Disgusting to see the jokes coming up here about cheap bargains becoming available from the desperate selling of so many now. Instead of snitching around about who's wearing a mask or not and who is daring to leave his room to get some daylight, and calling the Covid police, why not thinking about helping these numerous victims of the lockdown? Indeed. Be nice to see farang visibly helping out in times like this. T**ts like Anutin do not speak for them all... most are just normal people. At the least, it would help to improve the image of foreigners there right now.
