Covid-19: Don't you know there's a beach ban! Come on Pattaya, this is serious!

Tourists and locals in Pattaya are not taking the beach ban seriously, many online have claimed. 

 

People are still gathering on Pattaya and Jomtien beaches for exercise or socializing as if there is no Covid-19 crisis.

 

Siam Chon news called this behavior unconscionable. 

 

In two Facebook posts the local authority showed officers moving people on yesterday.

 

Later they said there was still not 100% compliance - but they posted pictures of deserted sands and Beach Road footpaths. 

 

They told tourists to go to their rooms, exercise at home and NOT to use the beach area at all.

Siam Chon News published lots of pictures of people out as normal at 5.50 pm on Tuesday and urged the authorities to step up their campaigns. 

 

One poster Decha Worayut echoed the views of many saying: Pattaya is not taking Covid-19 seriously.

That's the reason I packed my bags a few weeks ago and left to a quieter place, for a while ... don't have to deal nor think or be in the midst of this.

Yes, it's not about what's right or wrong, or arguing whether going to the beach alone, or with your partner, is good or bad, or a beer ban is good or bad.

 

It's about avoiding the masses, avoiding the road blocks, avoiding ignorant idiots and avoiding that kind of confusion and being chased around for fines. At least for me, for the moment.

 

I realize not everybody can do this ... so many people have to work in the cities (or anywhere really) and are in trouble now.

What a crazy time, but hopefully, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

 

And it's here to stay for a while, we all learn how to deal with this going forward, keeping good pre-caution habits and best practices.

Yes, agree. The thing is ... it's all or nobody.

 

Who's going to drive around and decides what is a small group, a big one, what's too close, what's a party, or just a small get together with same people sharing the same house?

I agree, BUT it annoys me that this <deleted> feels it's OK for him to be on the beach, what about me and the rest who would also like to be on the beach?? What if every one felt like the lone <deleted> on the beach?

 

If the law is in place, no matter how stupid then it should be enforced.

I understand your point but if you let 10 use the beach 100 will follow, a ban is a ban and must apply to everyone

just use common sense, if there is 1 guy on the beach and another 200 metres away, as a policeman you should have something more useful to do and don't waste your time moving them on. 

If it's a group drinking that's completely different. Unfortunately some people can only think in black or white

that's black and white thinking again. 10 isn't a problem, 100 is so would be stopped. It's this same thinking that got us in trouble with the lockdown. In the UK one guy on the radio was phoning every day to say he wanted a full lockdown, more had to be done, it happened and he lost his job and life

I understand what you are saying ... but I don't think it's working like this, in practice. Not from the grouping side of things, nor from the Bib/fines side of things.

 

At least not from what I've seen in Thailand over the years ????

Doesn't look much like gathering seems like they're practicing good social distancing.What's the difference between the beach and the road?Is it much easier to get infected in the open air on the beach than in Makro or Big C or 7-11?

Life here in the village has continued virtually unchanged throughout the out break.A few wore masks but they seemed to have stopped wearing them.Had one case of dengue and zero recorded C19.Everybody still enjoying themselves not hiding away in petrified fear of the outdoors at all!If ignorance is bliss then it seems like a better choice at the moment.Go then and live in fear and continue on your self righteous finger pointing way.Beware the cure because it's coming to you too.

A bit of an exaggeration, Thais aren't angry at us, we didn't cause it, it was the China virus plus govt actions. I read 100s of Thai Facebook comments and none have been angry at Farang except at the usual people not wearing masks

Obviously they should follow the rules but no big deal if a few go near the beach, 100s on soi Buakhao close together. Focus on more important things like why we are in this mess in the first place.

For days now "groups" of people on the beach have been made up of no more than 1 or 2 people. So the police are not breaking up groups of people. They're chasing away single people and the odd couple.
