A man shot dead his wife as she lay next to their baby on Wednesday (April 22) after she refused to buy him more liquor.

Yee San Police Station in Samut Songkhram province was notified of the incident before daybreak by a relative of the victim. The alleged killer was still on the run on Wednesday.

Officers arrived at the scene to discover the body of Yupaporn Poonpipit, 36, lying with a gunshot wound to her head as their nine-month-old baby boy cried next to her corpse.

The dead woman was found with Bt700 still clutched in her hand. The shell from an 11mm-calibre pistol was also found at the scene.

Police learned that the couple were vendors whose business had been suspended during the pandemic crisis, leaving them without any income. Police named the husband as Winai Maila-or, 35, who was reportedly a regular drinker.

A witness said that he saw Winai argue with Yupaporn after she refused to give money to buy liquor and then heard gunshots, before Winai drove away from the house.

Yup and put his picture online so we all can help to find him.

Did the relative wait until morning before reporting gunshots, giving this coward time to escape?

Penny-less, alcoholic on the run - they should be able to get him in minimum 48 hours

So sad, what will happen to the baby?

Sad for the baby's sake, but I'm sure he'll be looked after by relatives. I'm more curious about a) how the man can afford a gun and ammo but not a drink? and b) 11mm? What pistol is chambered for 11mm? I've heard of 0.44 caliber but 0.433 sounds a little obscure.

Sho sad , a young life snuffed out , a baby growing up without a mother and the knowledge that  it's father was not only a murderer, but an a-hole . I hope the baby has loving Grandparents and

Irredeemable a-hole who needs to be held in a cell without a drink for a while, let him think of what he did , and then shot him.

People who commit acts like this deserve no mercy whatsoever.

In a country that uses metric, could be a generic term for .44 or .45.

11mm is not a standard size I'm aware of.

It is a tragedy, the man must has mental illness, arrest him and don’t release him. Thai government loves to release prisoners.

11mm is a common term here and is what we normally call a 45

I would think a 45 would take her head off at short range

Life is not worth much here. RIP.

I'm amazed by all the guns that are lingering around in Thailand. No money for alcohol but enough for a gun.

Thai journalists work in metric and always report the ubiquitous 0.45 ACP round as 11mm. The pistol was probably an old Colt Model 1911.

11mm was quite a common calibre for military handguns in Europe in the first half of the last century. Belgium and France in particular produced them - both revolvers and automatics. At a guess, they may have found their way into this part of the world via French Indo-China?

Most illegally held old pistols such as this probably come with an old box of a couple of dozen rounds of ammunition, and that is it.

Eh, buy more liquor. What happend to the alcohol ban. Shame about the baby

Are all these suicides and murders recently being counted as corona related deaths? I suspect if the lock-down continues much longer the deaths from cancer patients/the chronically ill and others too scared to go near hospitals for needed treatment, suicides from stress and economic ruin and stress related murders will(probably already has) surpassed the official corona death tally.

I'd say they do but it simply  becomes a matter of  <deleted> the consequences for them.

strange that he left her dead with the money still in her hand, obviously not premeditated just a fit of rage from an alcoholic.

Probably, I mean people on alcohol are not known for being rational. It lowers inhibitions and brings out a mean side in some people. Others like me will just fall asleep when drunk. It does different things to different people. Too bad you can't ban it for people on a case to case base.

Just like some drugs make some people addicted and it does not do the same for others. I get why there is an uniform law for all (to make it easier) too bad it does not take into account that we all react different. Maybe there should have been some sort of license to buy certain drugs like alcohol after having tested how people respond to it how depended they are ect and periodically update it

Probably undo-able but else the only thing to do is to accept the casualties that some legal drugs bring and not moan about it.

The addicts were mad before this ban and seems that this guy had no problems buying alcohol during the ban so the whole ban is a non issue to start with. I only posted it to show how lax bans and regulations are and that real addicts will always get more.
