You thought wrong. I didn't post a link it was a quote, the link could have been linked to the Bangkok Post even though Richard was quoting from there.

If I was a betting man, which I'm not it would be too tricky to call at the moment, I would give odds of evens of it going either way.

I really doubt it, you guys are vocal.. what do you think of the Thai populace especially the poorer who see drink as an escape. I doubt the junta would want to create too much resentment. That would come back to bite them in the ass.

Agree. It's nice to stick half a glass in the spag bol and drink a couple of glasses while eating. Just because I enjoy that doesn't mean I'm a raving alky and go on the rampage after it.

A long time ago while working in Italy the factory canteen

( more like a restaurant to be honest ) supplied a small glass of wine or small beer as part of the lunch. I thought it was very civilised.

Some people, some people are aggressive without alcohol. We get it, you don't like alcohol. Some people do, no need to ban the sale of alcohol. As always, you target the people that do get aggressive, without denying everyone to endulge. Hardly rocket science. 

Lift the ban on off license sales but keep the bars closed etc. Drink at home.

I think the malls, which can be only money washing business due to the always empty shops, are more the target of interest and that's why the Chinese tourist are more welcome.

That is what most other countries do at the moment. To be honest, if the numbers in Thailand are right, I see no reason why they cannot open up the bars pretty soon. Urge social distancing to be enforced and there should be no problem.

Obviously your solipsism helps you get though tough times.The majority of Thai's are poor and under educated hence they are stuck in survival mode, hence most people would hit the bottle given half the chance in steady of buying food for their families.

What do you think about the thousands of alcoholics, they are being calm without? There are a lot of Thai drinkers and of course even resident Farang. But most of the Farang can handle the alcohol and drink at home without making party.
