Well done Thailand for Covid-19 response! Foreign tourism set to return in fourth quarter

Thailand's minister for tourism and sports, multi billionaire Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, has spoken with the TAT chief on what measures to adopt when the lockdown in Thailand is lifted.

Top of the list is how tourism might continue post pandemic.

The overriding message from an MCOT story indicated that Pipat and TAT chief Yuthasak Suphasorn agreed that domestic tourism should be targeted first.

Yuthasak said that they would initially concentrate on reviving tourism in Phuket and Koh Samui. No mention was made of Pattaya, notes Thaivisa.

The TAT will be issuing a report within the next fortnight on helping business operators in the tourism sector, initiating a period of "New Normal in tourism in the domestic arena before hopefully returning to more wide scale international tourism in the fourth quarter.

This would coincide with the cool season and Thailand's high season for 2020-21.

Pipat had nothing but praise for his fellow Thais and medical personnel.

And he pointed to the country being recognised by the WHO for their excellent Covid-19 response.

so what happens during the next flu season? you remember the flu, don't you? the one where you get a sore throat, then a fever and then you cough a lot.

It ain't matter who good Thailand performed if the whole world is struggling with the virus.

Good efforts but it can't help to restore tourism.

Foreign tourism this year - it's just not going to happen, as there will be a 2nd, 3rd, 4th wave of infections. Get Thailand back on it's feet first. Encourage domerstic tourism.

I'm sure after this media release, the sentiment is not mutual.

Phuket doesn't deserve tourists after the way certain people have treated them.

I personally hope they never go back.

Just where does he think tourists will be coming from in around November? Also, has he perhaps engaged his brain and thought about the risks of allowing tourists to enter the country?

Unfortunately, as soon as borders are reopened then the problem starts again.

Of course, Thailand has done very well to stem an epidemic, but in doing so it has left the population somewhat vulnerable to imported infection.

Domestic tourism targeted first? What proportion of the total tourist take will that be?

Until international travel is restarted, the tourist industry in Thailand will be a shadow of its former self. The days of cheap air travel are over unless Thailand wants to subsidize inbound travel. Potential tourists will stay in their own country, many no longer have disposable income.

That's if you accept the hypothesis Thailand does not have either herd immunity or environmental factors in operation.

Maybe Q4 next year 2021. Maybe not.

Doesn't really matter what market they aim at, both domestic and international tourism will be almost non-existing, because most people around the world has been without work. No work equal no money. Natives has already sold their gold.

They also seem to forget that many countries will Not allow international travel for a very long time ahead.

You'll get sent home with a bag of mixed lollies like all the C19 infections as Thailand says it's just a flu.Simple.Next question?

With the "new normal" there will be a vacant seat between each passenger so the price will be twice as much.

TAT new Slogan

"Come to Thailand and enjoy your paid 14 day Quarantine"  "Return refreshed from seeing Thailand through your television" better yet "Enjoy Thailand's 5 star Covid-19 Quarantine Hotels and get free meals"

No matter TAT will count everyone who steps through their front door as a domestic tourist so business will be booming the moment they ease the restrictions.

i think there are a significant number of visitors who will have been put off ever returning to Thailand , not least because of this ridiculous and over-zealous alcohol ban, which is now news around the world. not great publicity for a 'welcome Back'  tourism drive.

Just lock down the whole world again, take away more freedom (normalcy) all small business and enterprises closed. very few have jobs  just the huge companies survive

( write a letter to the top 20 to confirm everything goes to plan) say its for yours and everyone else's safety

everyone just rolls over and excepts   "the new normal"  !!!!

OMG. He has to be talking about China. Well why not seems Thailand's reporting is straight from the CCP how to be transparent handbook and everyone knows their (CCP) lapdog the WHO didn't help spread this virus around the world and we all need to thank the CCP "for their excellent Covid-19 response."

In July 2011, Mrs. Nathee declared assets worth about 90 million baht to the NACC, while her husband, Mr. Pipat, was declared to have assets worth 214 million baht and about two million baht in debt.

Nice work. Got to keep the awareness up of what this bunch are really all about.
