The government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) explained on Thursday (April 30) that the ban on selling alcohol had been extended to prevent social gatherings that might lead to a rise in coronavirus infections.

CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said the ban would remain in place until May 31 for the benefit of all people.

He announced that other restrictions will be eased from Sunday (May 3), which would allow markets, shops, public parks, sports and salons to reopen under strict public health measures.

Im surprised communal eating is not banned. It should be and it is in malaysia. Food isnt banned as it is a necessity of life. Communal eating is not.

Is all this stupidity supposed to be nation-wide now or what? Because half of this (especially the booze ban) was dictated by local governors.

Because literally all of these in my small town have been open for weeks. You wouldnt even know there was a pandemic if you visited here other than not being able to buy alcohol.

Local bank didn't even check my temp today or offer hand gel (have my own anyway)

You're government thinks you're far too dumb to think for yourself and act sensibly so alcohol is banned for the good of the nation ????

Most of it has been open all the way through in Bangkok too. Markets, food stalls, most shops etc all open per normal.

So the case of Chang I bought 2 days ago is even more precious now.

They always ban alcohol,  this is nothing new.  If they regularly ban alcohol,  then there is obviously an alcoholism problem in the country.

Same here, all markets, shops etc have been open. Only restarants and bars and shopping centers have closed. The only diffrence in visiting the market for example, is most entrances closed, and point of entry you were told to use the sanitizer. However you could walk straight past and nobody would have said anything.

No, you ban and fine those sitting in groups eating it. Food is essential, alcohol is not.

Yes, they should be closed.

The problem is that some people don't care about laws and so we all have to suffer because of them. Just came back from buying some food here in Pattaya and saw many Farangs without masks. Or just think of the strict immigration regulations. Many don't create problems but some don't care and we all have to follow now regulations like TM30 or showing the bank balance after 3 months.

He's just the usurper mouthpiece. I would prefer Dr. Plipat from DDC.

Slowly we're degrading back to a hunter-gatherer society. Soon finding barley on a field will be a stroke of luck.

They're obviously feeling the pressure now, so they've come out with this excuse.

Few friends have said they can buy from their mom and pop shops. Prices have gone up and the shop owners seem to be taking the ban less seriously. Guess people wanna have a beer and people wanna sell it. People have to eat.

Australia is now following new zealand on getting ahead.

Because each state had different restrictions they banned interstate travel and did lots of testing and tracing. Good job.

Having Qtip rammed in you nose all the way to your lower brain to test for a virus is just a way to demoralize people..... And should not be praised in any way......EVER..

Its not needed but they are doing it every where....

I'd happily see this guy drop 30 metres into a well for him to discover what contagion there is down there.

So Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin is saying the Thai police force are incapable, or can't be relied on, to enforce the existing laws.

Next they'll ban breathing, the virus is in the air ????????

New cases peaked on 22nd March at 188 whilst there was no alcohol ban. New cases on April 9th, the day the ban started were 54, a fall of 71% and falling continually since the peak. So, just how has alcohol been a cause of spreading the virus, as rates continued to fall while alcohol was still available?
