Like it or not, the Chinese will be one of the first tourists to return to Thailand. They will also constitute the biggest group by country and are the most valuable tourists to Thailand because of their sheer numbers. The Thai Government knows this and that’s why there has been so much emphasis on welcoming them and this will just continue into the future.

How many of you will leave Thailand permanently?

Im an American with a Thai wife this pandemic isnt scaring me away at all!

Yes they go on tours to Vegas, for which the flights are in-expensive, and which cost them little as they are sponsored by the casino industry.  When in Vegas, they stay in hotels, and the buffets there are also a big attraction for them as well as the free walk along the strip.  My best friend has worked as a director of security operations in Vegas for quite a few years, and I have a place in Boulder City I go to when I get a chance where family lives.  Unless you have proof that they spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on those trips please show us.   Chinese whales are few and far between...

Rubbish even Macow where the elite reds spend is in trouble.

What can one even say? Tourism is not returning to Thailand anytime soon. If you think about it, the group that comprised perhaps 60% of all arrivals (lower to middle income Chinese and Indians) are the ones who have been hardest hit by this idiotic worldwide economic shutdown. Tourism in Thailand will never recover to even close to it's former levels, and that leaves millions out of work. Most countries will still be required to have Covid letters, as the virus is still raging in many countries. And some countries will not issue that letter (impossible to get in the US). Plus, will the mandatory health insurance still be required? Will it be even stricter than before? And just what are people returning to, or coming to? Will everything be open? How about nightlife?

There are so many unanswered questions, it boggles the mind. One thing is for certain. Thailand will be feeling the effects of this for a very, very long time. So will the rest of the world. And rosy projections are just that. They are based on less than zero.

Absolutely they think it’s all good again well think real hard the virus is still high so the Chinese will no come no where near big crowds so as bad as it is Thailand will have to cope without the Falangs who keek there country cogs turning also they need to make the baht good again other wise forget!!!!!! It’s time to wake up ya dingbats

Sad sad and stupid. I am sooo anti China now I will never recover and be nice about them. I hope most of the entire world takes the same stance. Down with the Chinese government and No Chinese tourists. Stay home!.

I agree.  The CCP has been showing the world what's it's mission is, what it's capable of and many nations and businesses have looked the other way for years.
If these latest events don't wake up the world, then what happens in future years will come easy to the CCP.
I have been seeing more determination and public admonishing by some national political figures, but it comes at a cost and fear of social backlash.

I've been in constant contact with friends/family in the UK and objectively comparing the facts and figures (such as they are) between LoS and the UK.  Cases of infection and death rates have to be taken with a large pinch of salt, but having said that one thing (for me) that stands out a mile is the proactive measures that Thais took in closing borders.  You only need to look at any one of many flight tracking web sites to see that there are far fewer flights in and out of BKK than there were two months ago.  Yet you look at the UK as far as Gatwick and Heathrow are concerned, the government are now apparently about to apply quarantine regulations to all inbound passengers (except the French - why? So USA to Paris, Hop across the Channel - bingo!).  Trouble now is that the empiracle Baht needs funding from overseas visitors, and lo and behold! the villains of the piece are the first to be welcomed with open arms!  A lot of good work may well be in vain.

Let's be honest without any pretense. Most westerners come to Thailand for cheap sex, to call a prostitutue a GF, and possibility of marrying a prostititue. Why? Becuase they are utter failures in their own countries with low paying jobs, low pension, and possibly with a divorce becuase of their arroganices and know-it-all personalities. They don't have any significant standing in their societies and communities. They come to Thailand an become experts in everything and their arrogancies start to assert in a foreign land. Not all posters here but I can safely say 80/20 using the 80/20 rules that seems to be universal.

This forum provides them an outlet to post their inner ugly thoughts about all things that don't look and feel like their own land and their uncles back home that they left behind because of their meagre incomes pushed them to the bottom of the societies.

While today's world desnot allow them to drive bayonet into people's guts, this forum provides an equiavelent of driving bayonet into other cultures and people of standing in those cultrues and societies.

And here is one for enightenment.

No, they don't need one. "Other nationalities" do require one.

I do wonder WHY Thai government is so loyal to Chinese...

They DO NOT spend any money when they travel.

Before moving to Thailand me and my family traveled the Europe.

In a tiny town Salzburg there was a place (maybe not just one, but we've seen one) - a Chinese restaurant. And four buses of Chinese tourists... They stay in places owned by Chinese, they eat in places owned by Chinese. These is almost zero solo-Chinese tourists in any country (that are coming from mainland China).

And still, Thai government wants more and more of them as "tourists".

Your statements are biased. Please read the link below for all the statistics on number of tourists and how much they spend.

10% of the Thai population is of Chinese origin. As I've said before on this forum the Banks, Big Business etc. are run by Thai / Chinese families. The Chinese will always be welcome in Thailand, they can do nothing wrong .........

Is it a myth perpetuated by westerners about Chinese tourists not spending money? If, as most posters here complaint, that money is the one and only consideration for all Thais, why would they then welcome the Chinese if they are spending very little, and only in Chinese owned businesses? Fact is that many small shops and businesses profit from Chinese tourists. Except probably the ladyboys, gogo bars and pubs with service girls, Chinese dont seem to frequent such places.

Definitely Chinese would prefer to tuck into a bowl of hot noodle soup when touring in Salzburg. An enterprising local could have opened a restaurant and hired a Chinese chef! In Asia, i find them eating local food. Yes, those coming from interior villages are badly behaved, this will change slowly.

except the ladyboys?  i'd have to disagree.  all the chinese i know who have visited thailand thoroughly enjoyed the ladyboy shows.  very popular!  half their photos are ladyboys, the other half themselves in front of signs.  (hyperbole!  i didn't count, but there were a lot)

they even have a fake ladyboy show in sanya!  the star attraction was introduced as "coco," a famous award-winning ladyboy from thailand.  they even taught her a few phrases to repeat on stage.  my thai gf tried to chat with her during the photo session during intermission, but she couldn't speak thai a'tall.

You forgot sex ....... travel to Thailand was always driven by men looking for sex, nobody came here for the beaches.

Where in your list is the sex?

Yes that's so true for a lot of lone men travelling to Thailand. They can't get it up in their own country for various reasons (age, looks, lack of success etc. so they look for cheap Bargirls in Thailand. Dont tar everyone with the same brush. There are many other reasons why tourists etc. come to Thailand. There are many fine beautiful Thai ladies in Isaan who have never seen the inside of bar, GoGo joint, massage parlour or Karaoke bar.

the guy was proving wrong misleading information about Chinese not living with Credit Cards.... I live there and know for a fact the majority of the so called middle class in China lives with Credit, either cards or bank loans or family loans, they are  overwhelmed in debt, but the CCP propaganda people will say differently. Currently banks overwhelmed with so much defaulted loans, real estate property repossessions, car repossessions due to lack of payment because they run up the credit card (S) to the max, I said cards as they usually have more then one

you must be in one of the huge megalopolises.  i haven't seen that much credit card use by regular chinese.  they're more likely to pay with their bank's union pay debit card, or nowadays it's more common to use a cellphone app.

they don't even need credit cards for overseas travel anymore.  they can use atm's or buy their ramen noodles and cigarettes at 7-11 with their union pay cards.

i think maybe at one time, probably a decade ago, it was becoming a status symbol to have a bunch of cards in the wallet, with a shiny one pulled out very publicly to pay the tab at the karaoke bar.  sorta like holding up your iphone when you get a call and letting the distinctive ringtone get everyone's attention.  come to think of it, i don't see that many iphones anymore, either.

That doesn't tell the full story.

The average Asian person (including Chinese and Japanese visitors) spends about 2/3 of what a European spends while on holiday in Thailand.

The Chinese edge it because of total numbers, but per capita the Chinese are cheap charlies.

Thailand mean business.  Thai embassy visa section in China already opened on May 7, starting issue visas to Chinese.

They will come sooner that you think.  As soon as Thailand allows international flights from China.  In June, Thailand will allow inbound flights and Chinese will be the first group in with big numbers.
