The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have officially closed the case of the murder of a Thai man in Ontario in 2002.

They long suspected that the murder was committed by another Thai man who lived with the victim.

He disappeared and later tried to flee Canada with an expired passport.

The case went cold and after it was reopened DNA evidence was used to show that the suspect was the same person as someone who died in a train accident.

Relatives in Nakhon Sri Thammarat had been contacted to give DNA samples in February after cooperation between the Canadian police and Thailand's DSI.

The positive identification of the body of the deceased in the train accident means the case is now closed.

No names were given in the Daily News story.
