Due to Stay-At-Home & Booze-ban: How Much BODYWEIGHT Has Been Sadly Lost since April 10?

Recommended Posts

Since April 10th, just by staying in my room and avoiding drinking establishments, I have lost 6 kilograms of body-weight.

Around April 2nd, I weighed myself and found that I tipped the scales at 99.5 kilos.

Just this evening, I weighed in at 93.5 kilograms.

This weight loss I attribute to three things:

a. forgoing all alcohol consumption

b. proper preparation for the lockdown/curfew

c. I prepared the following to last 100 days:

i. 150 cans of tuna in spring water

ii. 180 chicken eggs in three boxes which I keep at 0.5 degrees C in my Hitachi refrigerator

iii. 40 kilograms of jasmine rice

iv. 1.5 kilograms of Chinese green tea shipped from Sichuan province

v.  80 plastic bags filled with Thai meals prepared by a great restaurant I know.  I just gave the lady the order, and the next day she had prepared 80 individually-wrapped chicken dishes with an assortment of spices used in Thai cooking. Most are super spicy because...Some Like It Hot.

vi. A baker's dozen of deep fried chicken breasts that I buy down on the corner.

vii. 16 kilos of baking flour, together with two kilos of sugar and 10 bottles of yeast (no, I am not using the yeast to make wine)  I enjoy freshly baked bread, instead.

viii. Lipton's tea bags:  I wasn't going to mention this item because the Lipton tea is not good compared to Chinese tea from Sichuan

ix.  I did NOT need to buy bottled water:  I never drink the stuff

x.  batteries for my AC remote and for my mice

xi. 6 large bottles of Thai fish sauce, and 4 liter bottles of some type of hot sauce which I cannot explain using just plain English.

These days, I just drink plenty of tea which helps curb my appetite, hence the weight loss.

Normally, I can eat like a lumberjack after felling fifteen trees, but with the stress of the novel virus, and the stress of the closure of alcohol sales, too, I am a bit off my feed these days.

And so, I never feel like eating much at one sitting.

Usually I just have a half bowl of rice with a can of tuna on top, for breakfast, together with a glass of Lipton tea.

Then, I just eat eggs throughout the day, about one every two hours, until it gets to be about 11:30 PM. This is my time for a real meal of one of those bagged chicken dishes, together with several glasses of Chinese tea.

This regimen which I adhere to strictly has helped me lose 6 kilos in less than 30 days.

My goal is to decrease my bodyweight to about 75 kilos.

======================

How much weight have YOU lost during the past almost-30 days?

Do tell.....

Lost enough that my shorts dont stay up with just elastic and I've discovered I have cheekbones.

Was drinking alot before covid and didn't stock up.

Decided to try something new and went 80% fruit, still going and the fructose helped a lot with sugar cravings from no beer

No intention of stopping for the near future. Lost the urge for alcohol

Great, you should continue this for a few more years to get back to good health and shape. I went up from 72 to 74kgs due to being plain lazy.

Here is something interesting for you:

Loss of weight has this affect on Blood Pressure....both Systolic and Diastolic:

A well conducted study in the UK, probably the BMJ, has demonstrated that the loss of 1 kg of bodyweight is associated with 1 mm of decrease in blood pressure.

If one loses 20 kg, which is a piece of cake for me, then I can lower BP by 20 points....a huge decrease.

Also, one of the risk factors or comorbidities for complications due to the novel virus is hypertension.

Just a word to the wise, here.

Hope it helps somebody.

Yeh, kinda the same here. There are 12 cool bottles of beer in the fridge, but they have been untouched for cummin up to 10 days now!

Enjoyin proper yogurt with mango at the mo, and it tastes great. ???? I will crack open a bottle sooner than later, but only one at a time, mind you. Drinkin for the sake of it, has left me now.

Currently, averaging 40 Deg here most days, so I may be tempted if it goes much higher. ????

Source please. I would like to get some of this. Thanks. ????

Here is the tea that I prefer (nice green boxes).  Quite low price. Amazingly good flavor.

I am trying to order direct to the factory in Sichuan from Thailand.

In the past, a Chinese friend ordered online through Taobao, had it shipped to his home in a village outside of Chengdu, and then he had a friend put it in with his luggage when visiting Chiang Mai once per year.  But now, there is a problem because flights from China have been suspended.  And so, I am trying to order direct and pay shipping costs to Chiang Mai.  I am having trouble contacting the tea company in Sichuan by telephone or email.  I am still working on it.  If I get through and get a quote, then I will try to post it here to this post.  Sorry about the image quality of the attached images....  I am using an old Note 4.20200503_232159.thumb.jpg.28c515baa7fcde1ee67815f33d6922f7.jpg

And now....A word about......Rice Weevils.  If you intend to stock up on rice, as I did, just be aware that you might open your bags of rice, after sitting for a while, and typically find these rice weevils.

For me, of course, they are harmless and sort of even welcomed in my self-isolation here in my room. The only company I have these days seems to be the Thai myna birds that I love, and the rice weevils that I can easily tolerate.  I don't even make a special effort to wash them out of the rice when I rinse the rice before steaming it.

After the years I have spent in various countries in East and Southeast Asia, the rice weevil has never harmed me.  And as I say, when one is alone, any life that moves is welcome. I don't like plants in my room, however.

Just, please, if you store rice for months, please do not fret if you see a weevil or two.

This is my best advice to you.

This, and stroke/blood clots.

Here are the reported comorbidities associated with COVID-19 outcomes (but this list is still evolving as we continue to learn more about the novel virus):

Reported proportions with comorbidities included 17% hypertension, 8% diabetes, 4% cardiovascular disease, 2% cerebrovascular disease, 2% chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 1% chronic kidney disease, and 1% malignancy. At least one comorbidity was significantly more common in severe than in nonsevere cases (33% vs. 10%). Patients with ≥1 comorbidity were older (61 vs. 45 years), and more often had shortness of breath (41% vs. 18%), nausea or vomiting (10% vs. 4%), and an abnormal chest x-ray (29% vs. 15%), whereas abnormal CT scans were similarly frequent (71%).

After some bad experience I store rice and noodles in the fridge. Never had a bad experience again.

I do the same.  I keep rice in the refrigerator at 0.5 degrees C.

BUT....

This time I bought 40 kilograms of jasmine rice (Bt.280.00 per 5 kilo plastic bag) and I can only store about 20 kilos in the fridge because I also have 180 eggs stored there.

In this case, I was forced to store the other 20 kilos in my clothes closet, but I keep my room at a constant 22 degrees C and thought this might suffice.  Still, opening up a new bag of rice this evening, I found quite a few weevils, yet hardly an infestation.

I have tried to first use the rice in my clothes closet, of course.
