Yes, it could be the new normal, or people could adapt like they have done throughout evolution.

All I asked her to do was speak louder and clearer through her mask. Is that bitching and moaning?

There will be some interesting encounters in the near future as we go to Immigration for our renewals. When I did my last 'in office' 90 day report, the officer on that desk habitually wears a mask and that was before Covid. I hardly understood a word he was saying. I just nodded my head.

Doing a renewal of marriage extension with monthly income is going to be quite a challenge!

Thailand should teach the rest of the world the new normal.

Covid-19 seems to be about twice as deadly as the typical flu everywhere else while it is killing 0.6% as many people here as die of the flu (typical flu kills around 2k people in Thailand per month and in last four months 54 have died from Covid-19 instead of 8k).

Yes, I did mine at the 2 months ago, I couldn’t read the immigration officers I couldn't hear or read the reactions from the officer through a mask and I didn’t feel happy to speak Thai through a mask.

It got really nasty when after an hour it appeared she doubted that I was the person who was applied for the visa last year, because “I didn’t speak Thai“ ( it was noted I spoke thai very well on my records apparently ) - she was critical that I asked my wife to translate for me and I signed the wrong papers. I tried to explain that it’s difficult for non-natives to catch what she is saying, but of course, there was no appreciation from the official side.

We returned from Sri Lanka over Xmas, the Tourist visa was done online and verification received via email within 60 mins, we printed off the email as did everyone else in the queue, but the immigration officer smiled and said no need, he could see it he prior authorization when he scanned the passport.

Over the past four months I have seen many opinions suggesting this is the “new normal” and that posters should get over it - no - it doesn’t have to be, in relation to immigration, the old normal is this face to face and paper service that perpetuates the need for family members in high paid government jobs with a fat pension after 25 years, this could easily be done online within a short amount of time with minimal effort and human interaction, this should be the new normal, is Thailand ready for the new normal?

This is the new “normal.” Bitch and whine all you want. You will not get any service.

It's not normal, past, present or future

What a sad world we all entering into  !!!!!!

"Thailand in January was the first country outside China to report a case of the new coronavirus that since swept the globe, infecting 3.5 million and killing 460,000"

Is this some kind of futuristic prediction? So far all sources say the death toll is around 252,000 at present. That's taking poetic licence a bit far.

Recommendation: any time a forum thread has three or more posts that include both "Thailand" and "normal" should come with some sort of warning...esp when we're all so beer-deprived.

If two friends or a couple turn up together it makes no sense having a screen between them as they would have been in each others company before arriving at the restaurant. If it's two strangers sitting at one table, then I see the point of it.

I do think we are moving into a time of silly ideas and rules being implemented, mostly not thought out very well, but the intention is good.

none of this makes sense.  no use trying to make sense of it
