The Apsara Authority has scheduled the planting and distribution of about 110,000 saplings this year in Siem Reap province’s Angkor Archaeological Park, where some trees have degraded. Long Kosal, Apsara Authority spokesman, said yesterday the planting of trees in the Angkor Archaeological Park and the distribution of saplings to the people are being scheduled for the upcoming rainy season.

“The planting of saplings will take place in degraded areas and some major locations in the Angkor Archaeological Park to expand the forest area and increase the greenery landscape,” he said. Technical officer of the Apsara Authority’s Department of Forestry, Cultural Landscapes and Environment Ley Kimsy, said the four nursery stations of the Apsara Authority are currently busy preparing and nurturing saplings to be planted for the upcoming rainy season.

He added: “If the situation of COVID-19 improves, the Apsara Authority will also organise a large-scale tree planting campaign with masses of people participating. However, if the situation still remain as it stands today, the Apsara Authority will organise the planting internally.”
